Miles Franklin, Trinity – When we last updated the rankings, Franklin was on crutches. Miles missed a large portion of his freshman season with a knee injury. After 8 months off, Miles returned and is having a strong Sophomore campaign. Franklin is a pure PG with a high ceiling and continues to grow both physically and in his game. Miles could draw interest from coaches this spring and summer if he’s back to top form.
Aden Nyekan, Barren County – One of the most athletic kids in the class, Aden is a 3 sport star as he is one of the top goal scorers in the state in soccer, kick for the football team and is the leading scorer and rebounder for the basketball team. Nyekan plays above the rim as he is very athletic and would be a top competitor if we had a state wide dunk contest. If Aden chooses basketball as his future path, it is likely to be at the scholarship level but he very well could follow his father’s path and pursue soccer as a career.
Tanner Walton, Lexington Christian – One of the most skilled players in the class, Walton has had a huge season scoring the ball and continues to lead a young LCA team to a solid year when few had expectations for them. Tanner leads the Eagles in almost every statistical category this year and has been among the biggest breakout performers in the state this season after being a role player for LCA last season.
Mitchell Rylee, Beechwood – Previously unranked, Rylee has worked his way up from role player to starting center for Beechwood over the course of the year. Perhaps his best asset is his ability to rebound at a high rate. Mitchell is very fundamental and will try to dunk on anyone who gets in his way. As his game continues to stretch, Rylee should be a solid player in a very good 9th region and has a chance to be a scholarship player down the line, depending on development.
Hayden Ash, Central Hardin – The shooter is among the best in the class, making 45% from three on the season. His development has a ways to go as far as putting the ball on the floor but when it comes to catch and shoot, Hayden is one of the top in 2022 and he shoots over 90% at the free throw line. As he grows and adds to his game, Ash is one to keep an eye on.
Cole Villers, Ashland – Villers is the leading scorer for the lone undefeated team in Kentucky and is an efficient scorer for the Tomcats. Freshman Colin Porter gets a lot of the headlines for the Ashland team but Villers is maybe their MVP at this point in the season. It remains to be seen what type of college interest he will draw but Cole is a very solid high school player who is well on his way to a very good career.
