All off the board!
Ohio’s committed 2020 class of power forwards includes two Division I recruits, three high-level Division IIs, a JUCO, and one D-III.
But there are still small forwards available for every level of college basketball. Here’s all of them on that are on the Prep Hoops Ohio radar:
Top 25 Overall
Dasean Nelson | 6-7 | Rogers
Nelson is a JUCO recruit with a wiry frame, explosive athleticism, and big-time potential. To go with the physical tools, Nelson competes for every blocked shot and rebound. He’s is rapidly becoming more efficient as a scorer and more capable of attacking from the perimeter. Finishes with authority.
Curtis Harrison | 6-7 | Seven Hills
offers: Buffalo, St. Francis (PA)
Harrison is built like a wing with his lean frame, broad shoulders, and springy legs. A standout rebounder at 6-foot-7, Harrison causes mismatches with bigs because he can blow by for a straight-line-drive. Good second jump. Improving shooter.
Nekhi Smith | 6-6 | Taft
offers: Detroit Mercy
Smith is a nimble yet bruising 6-foot-6 face-up forward with a versatile skill-set. He can spot-up shoot, get all the way to the rim with power moves, and pull-up with creative touch shots in the mid-range. Finishes with patience and power inside. Smith also puts up graceful floaters in the mid-range. Playmaker in transition.
Top 50 Overall
Conor Stolly | 6-8 | Alter
offers: Ashland, Christian Brothers, Delta State, Trevecca Nazarene, Urbana, Walsh, Thomas More
Stolly is a true knockdown shooter at 6-foot-8. His ability to pull opposing bigs away from the rim opens up the floor for slashers. Improving rebounder yet to fill-out physically. He has room to grow, making his potential very appealing. Comfortable handling the ball on the perimeter.
Deshaun Nettles | 6-8 | Cleveland Central Catholic
offers: Kilgore
Physical athlete with great size. Nettles quickly transitioned from a stretch four as a junior to a dominant post player this season. He can still run the floor, spot shoot, and push off the defensive glass. But Nettles has found a more suitable role as someone who plays more inside as a rim protector, rebounder, and finisher.
Top 100 Overall
Christian Parker | 6-6 | GlenOak
Skilled face-up forward and an active rebounder who plays on his toes. Parker can pass, shoot, and attack after turning to face the rim. Very good touch in traffic, whether he’s finishing over the shoulder or off one foot attacking the rim. Plus shooter from distance. Competes as a rim protector even if he doesn’t play above the rim.
Bilal Sow | 6-4 | Canal Winchester
Sow carries a strong thick body with long arms. He is skilled and can score it from a number of areas. He’s best putting his back to the basket and using his footwork to get a shot up. Sow can also spot-up shoot and score on put-backs. Uses his size to keep opponents away from the rim.
Eric Panning | 6-7 | Westland
Panning stretches the floor. He has a remarkably smooth shooting stroke for his size and confidently fires it off the catch. Nimble feet and quick enough to defend in space on switches. Adding size to his slight frame could open up his defensive and rebounding potential.
Elijah Meredith | 6-5 | The Wellington School
Strong face-up slasher with a soft left-handed touch around the rim. Plays hard. Uses his strength to get position and win rebounding battles. Meredith, a high-academic kid, can get out on the break and run the floor. He may not have immense upside but Meredith is productive.
Jagger Haynes | 6-6 | Massillon Perry
Good rebounder with solid tools and a skill-set. Patient with the ball and good passer out of the post. Good touch around the basket. Solid second jump.
Sleepers
Aaron Ward | 6-6 | Winton Woods
Face-up forward with springy legs and a thin frame. Ward elevates for finishes over the top and is quick off the floor.
Curtis Jackson | 6-6 | Rogers
High-riser with strong shoulders and an effective spot-up jumper. Jackson occasionally wows with an athletic rebound in traffic.
Dante Wheeler | 6-5 | Lima Senior
Skilled forward who can play facing up or with his back to the basket. Becoming more patient and improving his shot selection. Capable shooter. Uses the spin move well.
Joe Miller | 6-4 | GlenOak
Miller stretches the floor as a good shooter. He is also thick and athletic enough to defend bigs inside.
Dalton Mischal | 6-4 | McClain
Physical slasher who can score in traffic and defend multiple positions. Rebounds with strength. Mischal has the mobility and athleticism of a wing player, he just operates offensively like a power forward in that he’s best around the rim.
Larry Turner | 6-4 | Chaminade Julienne
Athletic, strong-bodied big who can rebound outside of his area and bully thin forwards. Uses his strength advantage in many ways. Flashes ability to attack out of the face-up. Sneaky athlete.
Jordan Garland | 6-5 | North Royalton
Garland is a mobile stretch four with the physical tools of a wing. He hunts 3-point shooting opportunities. Shows flashes of being able to beat his man off the bounce to get to the cup.
Jaden Dahm | 6-5 | Dayton Carroll
Mid- and low-post scoring threat with his back to the basket. Dahm has a good touch over the shoulder and is fundamentally sound. Should improve as a rebounder as he adds size to his frame.
Luken Hill | 6-5 | Sheridan
High-motor forward with a solid body and skill-set. Hill out-works opponents for loose ball rebounds and positioning inside. He can shoot it with his feet set but mostly looks to attack the rim.
Donald Hughes | 6-5 | Orange
An intriguing raw athlete with a lanky frame and explosiveness off the floor. Hughes can push pace in the open floor and shows skill on elusive moves around the rim. Plays hard.
Will Lemaire | 6-6 | Westerville Central
Spot-up shooting specialist with a knockdown catch-and-shoot 3-pointer. Long and thin. LeMaire is getting his shot off quicker.
Jalen Orwig | 6-4 | Wayne
Orwig’s athletic frame, effort, and burst make up his 6-foot-4 stature. Active rebounder who doesn’t shy away from contact and looks to attack.
Samual Barton | 6-3 | Columbus South
Skilled, big-bodied kid who makes good decisions with the ball and could cause matchup issues at the Division III level. Barton can get position inside and put it on the floor to make plays — in other words, he has an inside and outside game.
Henry Walker | 6-5 | Alder
Perfectly solid player with mobility and a motor. Walker may not do one thing spectacularly, but he is good in a number of areas at 6-foot-5 and knows how to play in the halfcourt.
Huston Harrah | 6-5 | Fairfield Union
Effective scorer in the deep post. Harrah has an effective drop step and a good touch inside. Becoming more assertive will be important.
