He scored 20 or more points over the final three rounds including 21 in the finals against Seton Hall Prep. Bethea is a player whose stock is known. For these players, they will have their names on the map very soon.
Amar’e Marshall (2021) | Montclair Immaculate
Marshall might have been Montcliar Immaculate’s second option this season but he is a clear No. 1. He scored 20 points in the quarterfinals against Payne Tech and followed that up with 17 points and nine rebounds in the semis against East Orange. Marshall is a dynamic scorer who can step out and shoot or draw contact and score from the free throw line. Marshall is just a junior and will get his chance to be the team’s top option next season. He will have them as preseason favorites entering the season.
Giye Jenkins (2021) | Seton Hall Prep
Jenkins scored in double-figures in his last 10 games and in every game of the Essex County Tournament. Throughout the season, Jenkins ran the point guard position and showed that he is a guard who can contribute in many ways. He led the team in assists and was a thief on the defensive end. Jenkins will be Seton Hall Prep’s leader once again next season as a senior. He is a player who opened some eyes during the tournament and showed people what he could really do.
Jahzeer Gaskin (2022) | Newark East Side
When you hear Newark East Side, Mikah Johnson Jr. comes to mine immediately. In the upcoming years, you will begin to think of Gaskin. He showed during his sophomore season that he is going to be a strong player. He scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in round one against Newark Tech. Newark East Side then fell to No. 2 Irvington but this is a team that is used to success and will return to high graces led by Gaskin.
Pedro Miranda (2022) | Payne Tech
It was a strong showing in the tournament for eighth-seeded Payne Tech. They picked up a first-round win over University led by 20 points by Miranda. They then took on No. 1 Montclair Immaculate and gave them all they could handle. It was a seven-point defeat for Payne Tech but they earned respect after that performance. Miranda scored 15 points against the champions. He turned in two big performances in the tournament and this was a great sign for the future. Miranda is just a sophomore and will step into a much bigger role next season.
Zahree Brown (2022) | Newark Central
Newark Central was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the tournament. This did not mean that their performance was forgotten about. Brown scored 16 points in round against Belleville and kept Newark Central in the game against East Orange. As a sophomore, Brown put his name on the map as a strong scorer and rebounder. He knocked down 28 three’s this season. That is a number that will grow over the next two seasons. Brown will turn into a top player in the conference.
