This is my final “Top Players of the Week” story for the regular season.
It’s been fun adding new players every week, and guess what? There are some players to make the list this week for the first time this season.
District tournaments kick off next week, so I will be everywhere.
Here are the top performers from this week’s action:
Kennedy Chandler, Briarcrest: The junior point guard led the Saints with 20 points in their 51-29 home win over MUS.
Marcellus Brigham Jr., Briarcrest: Brigham had 13 points and 11 rebounds against the Owls.
Decorian Payton, Center Hill: Payton had 14 points and 15 rebounds in the Mustangs’ 62-43 win over Lake Cormorant in the MHSAA 1-5A District Tournament Championship game. This is Center Hill’s second consecutive district title. Payton was named All Region 1-5A Player of the Year.
Kaeden Laws, Center Hill: Laws has averaged 17.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 2.4 assists and 2.8 steals in the Mustangs’ last five games.
JP Pegues, Hillsboro: Pegues had 26 points, six rebounds and six assists against Cane Ridge.
Johnathan Lawson, Wooddale: Lawson had 32 points and 11 rebounds in the Cardinals’ 88-59 win over Mitchell for the Boys Class AA SCIAA Championship. Kevin Brown added 18 on 8 of 10 shooting.
Jaylan Wetzel, Siegel: Wetzel led the Stars with 22 points in their 85-60 win over Smyrna. Matt Schneider added 21. Zion Swader finished with 13.
Patrick Smith Jr., Goodpasture: Smith had 21 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds in the 85-40 win over Friendship Christian.
Isaiah Jones, East Nashville: Jones had 14 points and 12 rebounds in a 75-34 win over Whites Creek. He had 10 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds in a 71-47 win over MLK Magnet High. Jaylen Jones led the team with 27 points. He made seven 3s. Willie Wilson added 14 points and converted on four 3s.
Will Farris, Bartlett: Farris led the Panthers with 17 points in their 55-35 win over Cordova. Rickey Lofties added 16.
Daniel Egbuniwe, FACS: Egbuniwe led the Crusaders with 20 points in their 60-47 win over Fayette Academy. Corey Savage had 11. TJ Thomas and Jayden Williams each finished with 10.
Thomas led FACS with 18 points in a 56-44 win over Jackson Christian. Egbuniwe added 14 points and 14 rebounds. Savage added 11. Williams had 10.
Jaxon Toney, Harding Academy: Toney led the Lions with 17 points in their 69-28 win over Margolin Hebrew Academy. Luke Campbell and Anthony Howard each had 11. Bobby Parks added 10.
Janais Parram, Jackson South Side: Parram led the Hawks with 19 points in their 73-43 win over Jackson North Side. Brandon Maclin had 15. J.J. Johnson added 11.
Jack Jabbour, MUS: Jabbour led the Owls with 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting in their 63-59 win over ECS. Henry Nickey had 12. James Barton added 11.
Hadden Burgess, ECS: Burgess led the Eagles with 24 points in their loss to MUS. Kameron Jones added 18. Jones had 19 points, five assists and three rebounds in the team’s 55-47 win over Tipton-Rosemark Academy.
Lucas King, McKenzie: King had 29 points and five rebounds on 7 of 11 shooting against Peabody.
Ty Bryant, Springhill: Bryant had 26 points, seven assists and four rebounds against Centennial. He had 30 points, four assists and four rebounds against Ravenwood.
Jeff Norment, Bolivar: Norment had 16 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in a 79-45 win over Ripley. He had 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals in a 68-59 loss to Millington.
Chandler Jackson, Christian Brothers: Jackson had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Purple Wave’s 64-40 win over St. Benedict. Reese McMullen also had 16. Harrison Kelly led the team with 17. The win gives Christian Brothers head coach Bubba Luckett his 600th win in 30 years as the head coach of the program. He joins only six other high school coaches in Memphis to reach this milestone.
McMullen, a junior, reached 1,000 points this week.
Bobby Westbrooks, St. Benedict: Westbrooks led the Eagles with 16 points in their loss to the Purple Wave.
Phillip Horton, Fayette Ware: Horton had 23 points, 15 rebounds, three steals and three blocks in the Wildcats’ 70-58 win over Bolton. Tyler Fitzpatrick had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists. Taki Walker had 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. Tay Williams added nine points, nine rebounds and two blocks. JaSteven Walker added 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Trey Henderson led Fayette Ware with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in a 74-60 win over Millington. Fitzpatrick had 11 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals. Horton added 12 points and five rebounds. Walker added eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
Houston Dyer, Knoxville West High School: Dyer led the Rebels with 15 points in their 49-46 win over William Blount.
KB Brooks, Lake Cormorant: Brooks led the Gators with 25 points and 11 rebounds in their 57-50 win over Saltillo. Donovan Sanders had 15 points, four rebounds and three assists. Brooks had 22 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and three steals in a loss to Center Hill.
Alex Anderson, Tipton–Rosemark Academy: Anderson had 24 points and 14 rebounds in a loss to ECS.
Luke Moore, Fayette Academy: Moore led the Vikings with 18 points in their 62-32 win over Natchez Trace in a play-in game of the TSSAA Division II-A Boys West Region Tournament. Ryan Eubanks added 12. Brett Culver finished with 11.
Jaquan Lax, Bolivar: Lax had 30 points in a win against Millington. He had 14 points, five rebounds and two assists in a win over Haywood.
Other notes: Senior forward Gary Smith Jr. and junior guard Tanner Ham of Columbia Academy were named to the Division II-A District 3 All-Season Team. Smith finished the regular season averaging 16.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 2.5 assists. Ham averaged 13.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and shot 35 percent from 3.
