Top Players of the Week (Week 11)
The month of January has been pivotal for teams because everyone is trying to win district games.
There were some important district games this week, along with some notable non-league games at Lausanne this weekend in the Fuel to the Fire Showcase hosted by Ultimate Preps.
I attended some important/competitive games this week.
Here are the top performers from this week:
Tadarius Jacobs, Memphis East: The junior guard had 28 points and seven rebounds in the Mustangs’ 89-76 win over Whitehaven. Jacobs had 15 in the 58-55 win over Sunrise Christian Academy in the Dr. Pepper Classic.
Duane Posey, Memphis East: Posey had 18 points and 11 rebounds against the Tigers. He had 18 points against the Buffaloes.
Kylan Haywood, Memphis East: Haywood had 14 points and eight rebounds against Whitehaven.
Isaiah Cathey, Memphis East: Cathey had 14 points and six assists against the Tigers. He had 10 points against Sunrise Christian Academy.
Christopher Brunt, St. Benedict: The sophomore guard had 23 points and three assists in the Eagles’ win over Brighton. Brunt had 20 points, five assists and three rebounds in a loss to Briarcrest. Bobby Westbrooks and Dante Carassco each finished with 15.
Harmonta Griggs, Fayette Ware: Griggs had 25 points in the Wildcats’ 70-49 win over Ripley. Taki Walker had 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Tyler Fitzpatrick had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
In Fayette Ware’s 77-49 win over Bolivar, Fitzpatrick finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Walker had 12 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. JaSteven Walker added 10 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks.
TJ Thomas, FACS: Thomas led the Crusaders with 25 points in their 70-48 win over Trinity Christian. Kobe Wilkes had 15. Daniel Egbuniwe had 13. Corey Savage finished with 12.
In the 66-64 win over Tipton-Rosemark Academy, Wilkes led FACS with 16. Egbuniwe, Thomas and Savage each had 12. Jayden Williams added 10.
Decorian Payton, Center Hill: Payton had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the 64-60 win over Lake Cormorant. Zandon Haralson had 20 points and nine rebounds. Kaeden Laws, who reached 1,000 points this week, added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Amarr Knox, Memphis Central: Knox had 31 points in the Warriors’ 81-78 win over White Station.
Kavion McClain, Whitehaven: McClain had 28 points in the Tigers’ double-digit loss to Memphis East.
Alvin Miles, Whitehaven: Miles led the Tigers with 17 points in their 58-40 win over Lausanne in the Fuel to the Fire Showcase. Jesse Payne had 13. Devine Owens was named MVP.
Zion Swader, Siegel: Swader led the Stars with 17 points in their 66-56 loss at Blackman. Jaylan Wetzel had 16, and Matthew Schneider added 14. Wetzel had 19 points in Siegel’s 74-50 win over Riverdale. Swader had 14 and Schneider added 10.
Jamari Jackson, PCA: Jackson had 24 points, nine assists, six steals and five rebounds in the 81-43 win over Soulsville. James Golden added 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Christian Sweet finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Jaylon Sanders, Collierville: Sanders led the Dragons with 19 points in their 60-57 win at Ridgeway. Jordan Jenkins had 12.
Sanders had 20 points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal in a win against Kirby.
Kendall Thomas, Ridgeway: Thomas led the Roadrunners with 24 points in their loss against Collierville.
Robert Green, Northpoint Christian: Green led the Trojans with 25 points in their 65-60 win over Harding Academy.
Patrick Smith Jr., Goodpasture: Smith had 22 points in a 64-52 win over the JP2 Knights. He had 18 points in a win over Randolph.
Daveonne Warfield, Kirby: Warfield had 20 points in a loss against Collierville.
Charlie Ivory, Westwood: Ivory led the Longhorns with 19 points and 11 rebounds in their 82-74 win over Freedom Prep. Terrion Whiting had 17 points and five rebounds. Jaylin Smith chipped in 17 points, five rebounds and three steals. Charles Harris had 15 points. Damiel Briggs added 13 points and five assists.
Alex Anderson, Tipton–Rosemark Academy: Anderson had 22 points and 13 rebounds in the Rebels’ 61-53 win over Southaven in the Fuel to the Fire Showcase. He took home MVP honors. Cam Donegan added 16.
Darius Naylor, Southaven: Naylor had 19 points against Tipton-Rosemark Academy. Isaiah Brevard had 18.
Rickey Lofties, Bartlett: Lofties led the Panthers with 17 points in their 62-34 win over Christian Brothers in the Fuel to the Fire Showcase. He was named MVP. Kamrin Jones added 14. Bartlett made nine 3s in the win.
Kennedy Chandler, Briarcrest: Chandler led the Saints with 23 points in their 56-50 win over Pearl Cohn in the Fuel to the Fire Showcase. He took home MVP honors.
Madison Peaster, Arlington: Peaster led the Tigers with 30 points in their 70-68 win over Olive Branch. Phil Dotson III finished with 16.
K’Juan Banks, Cordova: Banks had 15 points in the Wolfpack’s home win against MHEA. Calvin Jennings and Jordan Hamilton each had 14. Banks had 20 points and 14 rebounds in a home loss to Arlington. Hamilton added 13.
Austin Abernathy, Fayette Academy: Abernathy led the Vikings with 22 points in their 64-22 win over Natchez Trace Youth Academy.
