Both teams started hot on the offensive end of the court and it felt like it was going to be a shootout until things slowed later in the quarter. Holland Hall led after one quarter of play 17-11 as Mark Gouldsby paced the way with five points. The second quarter was a show of offensive strength from the dangerous Dutch team as the scored 21 in the quarter to open up a 38-21 lead at the half. The third quarter was the best the quarter that the Patriots were able to put together on the night but they were still outpaced by the Dutch as they led 51-35 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter seemed over quickly as Evan Sadler fouled out of the game in under thirty seconds to change the entire tone of the game. The Dutch went on to close out the game as they won 66-45.
Best Offensive Performance: Ethan Roush 2022 Holland Hall Guard
Roush was the best shooter on the court tonight. He put together a solid outing by having a good shot selection and playing unselfishly. He was where he needed to be on the court and was able to find the open spots to set his feet to knock down the threes. Roush was able to knock down three treys on the night as he finished with 11 points.
Best Defensive Performance: Evan Sadler 2020 Metro Christian Guard
Looking at the stat sheet most people would not be impressed with Sadler’s numbers. However, if you take a deeper look at his game he was impressive on the night. He played a fast and physical game that was great for him at times. He was able to affect the game at the top of a 1-2-2 3/4 court trap that Metro played. He was forcing turnovers and getting his team extra offensive possessions when they were in desperate need. He was also very present on the offensive and defensive boards throughout the night. The one downside to his physical game play was that he got into foul trouble and eventually fouled out of the game very early in the fourth quarter. He finished the night with 2 points.
Best aspect of the game: Holland Hall’s Unselfish Play
Holland Hall was moving the ball against Metro on the night. They were working the ball around the perimeter trying to find Brock Davis down low, but they did not force it. They found the open man and worked the ball to get a good look at the basket. This unselfish play turned into many lay ups or easy shots within the paint which gave the Dutch a huge advantage down low on the night.
MVP Performance: Brock Davis 2020 Holland Hall Forward
Davis was the best player on the court tonight and it did not even seem like he even broke a sweat. The game came to him easy as he worked hard and was able to find his soft touch around the rim. Davis showed a maturation in his game from earlier in the season when he would try to do to much. Tonight he trusted his teammates and was unselfish with the ball. Do not let that fool you though, when he could make a post move and finish at the rim he was able to do that. He just did not force it up when his teammates had a better shot. Possibly, Davis’ best attribute on the night was his vision. He was passing out dimes to his teammates all night long. He also managed to play great defense around the rim without fouling. He was getting blocks and affecting any shot that was in the paint. If Davis can play the way he played tonight as the Dutch enter the playoffs, they will be hard to beat. Also if Davis can continue to play at such a high level he is bound to pick up some offers as the season winds down. Davis finished the night with a game high 16 points.
