The Tuesday Night Elite
Who stood out Tuesday Night? Matthew Mors of Yankton headlines after a special evening.
Matthew Mors of Yankton. Matthew Mors, a Wisconsin commit, is the 45th ranked junior in the nation and last night Mors showed the state of South Dakota why. With two minutes ago and Andrew going head to head with a D1 senior in Andrew Bergan, Mors defined “taking the game over”. How? Inside the two minute mark of a tie game Mors knocked out his second three of the game and then followed that with a pair of scores including a pick and finish. Mors scored seven down the stretch (and 28 for the game on 11 of 22 shooting) while Central was shutout.
Andrew Bergan of Aberdeen Central. At 6-foot-8 Andrew is a stretch four which is what many college programs are looking for. Bergan has showed the skills in an agile frame and that’s why he’s the lone South Dakota senior that picked up multiple D1 offers and is headed to UND. Last night he knocked out 4 of 6 threes making shots over big defenders. Bergan scored 21 points for the game plus he pulled several boards off the rim that grabbed the attention of the crowd (secured a dozen rebounds).
Maxwell Burchill of SF Lincoln. Max is a big wing that is tough to close out on when he faces up to the basket and last night Brookings had more trouble than most. Burchill recorded five three-pointers and made four of his five shots in the paint scoring 27 points for the game. Max rebounded well (6), moved the ball creating several shots (3 assists), and most importantly he led his team to a 7th win (7-5 on the season).
Tommy Determan of Gregory. Determan is a 6-foot-3 senior from Gregory who was very aware that 11-3 Lyman would might be the toughest opponent for the Gorillas to date. How did Determan respond? By leading his team to their tenth win of the season in a very big win. Determan put up a 24 point, 11 rebound double-double while helping guide 8th grade standout Daniel Mitchell score 21 (the 6-foot-5 Mitchell is averaging 13 a contest).
Cole Fosness of Britton-Hecla. If there was ever a needed second half explosion it was Cole Fosness leading the Braves to a much needed victory over Sisseton Tuesday night. Cole, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, had only scored on two possessions at the half. However, he exploded for four fourth quarters three-pointers and 26 second half points overall scoring 30 in a 64-60 victory.
Connor Libis of Dell Rapids St Mary. Speaking of explosive, we have to go back to Monday night. Connor Libis led his St. Mary team to an 11th win by pouring EIGHT threes on Garretson in eight minutes of play! He scored 26 points in those eight minutes and then put up 40 points for the game, in only 22 minutes! Wild numbers that define explosive scoring.
