The first of many league playoffs come from the BCL- West featuring Bay Area small schools powerhouses like University High School (San Francisco, CA) and Stuart Hall High School (San Francisco, CA). The only North Coast Section league in San Francisco starts the post-season with shakeups coming off a semi-final upset of Urban to University followed by Stuart Hall with a battle-tested semifinal win over newly Co-Ed school from the North Bay San Domenico.
Game Recap: With Stuart Hall down 5 players from (team-related actions) Coach Charles Johnson to make way with a few call-ups from the JV squad. The whole 32 minutes were action-packed with Urban coming out with a fast-paced gameplan behind Junior point guard Bryce Smith relentlessly going for steals and attacking the basket. Senior Dane Blood showed promise early with his rebound presence on both ends. Also, adding put backs and mid-range jumpers to keep the Blues in the lead. Halftime had Urban in the lead. With Junior Jaydon Aquino showing his 3 Point range with 3 FGM from long range in the first half Urban showed dominance over the Knights. But, it was Stuart Hall pushed back in the second taking a 10 Point lead in the 4th quarter with crucial buckets and defense from Junior Josh Puccinelli and a late basket by Senior Ares Williams showed his clutchness late. The Knights ended up edging the Blues 51-50 in a thriller that came to the last second on a missed shot from Urban’s Bryce Smith.
With Stuart Hall(20-7)(7-3) winning the BCL-West Championship it will come with high NCS playoffs seeding. Stuart Hall has been seeded (1) and will play Oakland Military Institute in the first round of the NCS Division 5 playoffs at Kezar Pavilion Wednesday, February 19th at 8:30 PM.
