The Pointe put away the Lions, 81-74, with the help of five players scoring in double-figures. The Rock had four of their own do the same. Check out the top five standouts from the night.
Ramses Melendez – Central Pointe 2021: The 6’6” forward made his mark on the game early, flushing a breakaway dunk over The Rock defender to earn the first two points of the game. Melendez finished with a team-high 20 points by-way of some rim-rattling slams and being efficient from three. He went 3-of-4 from beyond-the-arc. Melendez will be an asset to absolutely ANY team at the next level.
Kyle Duke – The Rock 2021: This guard can absolutely GO. He plays with an intensity and patience that very few in the Gainesville-area, have. Duke can drill it from three, hit the midrange J, and snag offensive rebounds that lead into putback layups. Duke finished with a game-high 22 points. Duke deserves to be on more than a few college lists.
Luis Rolon – Central Pointe 2021: This was my first time catching a game of Rolon’s, and he definitely played one of the most calculated games I’ve seen, to date. He is a true point guard—knows how to set his teammates up for success, knows how to create chances for a bucket of his own. The senior leader notched 14 points off 7-of-8, shooting. He nearly nabbed a double-double, earning a game-high nine assists. On defense, Rolon earned two steals. Love his game, all-around.
Lenzy Hancock Jr. – The Rock 2020: L.J.’s effort on both ends of the floor couldn’t be ignored, tonight. While he serves as the Lions big man, he was visibly oversized against the Central Pointe post-players. Yet, he never stopped battling. L.J. was able to score in the paint & hold his own, while diving on the floor to keep plays alive on D. His three-ball has gotten better, also. Just nine points on the night, but the confidence he played with showed, tonight.
Jonny Aybar – Central Pointe 2020: Another 6’9” big for the Pointe, Jonny Aybar demonstrated that while he can be productive from inside 16 feet (4-of-5 on 2-PT FG’s), he has no problem stepping out and hitting the deep trey. His length disrupted The Rock’s ball-handlers all night, thwarting those from wanting to approach the rim on some drives. He’s another guy that’s playing with great confidence at the right time. He scored 11 points in the win.
