Owen Bushaw of St. Croix Lutheran (6’0, CG). Bushaw has one of the smoothest pull-up jumpers in the state of Minnesota. We saw Owen make three of those jumpers today initially beating the defense with a quick dribble and then pulling up by the time the defender got his legs back under him to catch up. Bushaw went to the foul line 14 times and scored on a dozen of those attempts. His timing going to the basket ranks with the best as Owen does a great job of getting into his attempt when the defender is in prone positions, or just beaten to the spot.
Breyton Buysman of Simley (6’2, SG). Buysman opened the game hitting three first half three pointers working his way to spots to catch and hit with his feet under him. As the game moved on Big Lake did a better job of locating him so Buysman adjusted by cutting to spaces for short attempts and he made those as well scoring 25 points for the game. Buysman is scoring 14 a game for the Spartans.
Jack Frick of Chaska (6’2, SG). Let’s not make this more complicated than it needs to be, Jack is one of the most dangerous shooters in the 2021 class at the arc. That’s how he gets minutes. Jack plays a good share of minutes because he takes smart shots and works hard on both ends. Scored twelve points on four threes plus grabbed five boards vs STMA.
Xavier Garcia of St. Croix Lutheran (6’4, SF). Garcia has potential written all over him. His skills in a good frame at 6-foot-4 with excellent technique will have college coaches watching close. Garcia can be streaky but this weekend he’s been excellent scoring 20 something last night and then responding with 18 against the Magic. Garcia knocked out three triples and was able to beat all the Magic size into his one or two dribble attacks.
Zach Longueville of St. Croix Lutheran (6’1, SG). Longueville is commonly known as a deadly shooter but today the shot was off (4 of 13) but Zach did a lot of important things to help the Crusaders earn the win. He had a time high in boards plus moved the ball to the wing allowing teammates to attack against moving defenders.
Griffin Rushin of Brainerd (6’5 SF). This was our first game watching Griffin but from what we can see this is a small forward with a stroke. Maple Grove is a good defensive team that closes out well but Rushin has range on his jumper plus at 6-foot-5 you need another step to contest his shot and it’s tough to do. Rushin hit four three-pointers and scored 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting. Add in five boards and it was a good effort against a good team.
