Nate Barnhart is tall and talented:
De Soto’s Barnhart is somewhere between 6-foot-9 and 7-foot. His slender build may prevent him from becoming a banger in the lane, but the diversity of his skills and his coordination are impressive. He showed his level of comfort around the arc and handling the ball.
Drayton Foster did a nice job against Barnhart:
Seaman’s 6-foot-5 post did a good job minimizing Barnhart in the lane. Barnhart tallied 13, but didn’t dominate the game. This is not surprising. Foster is bound for Washburn on a football scholarship, and his physical gifts suit him for this type of task.
Wyatt Noll dominated in the paint:
The De Soto junior scored five buckets in the paint in the second half, and finished 17 points to lead all scorers. Noll has a mature build and wasn’t affected by contact around the rim.
De Soto is built for next season:
De Soto is 12-4 and sits just outside the top five ranking of 5A teams, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal. With nearly their whole team coming back, the Wildcats could really be poised to make noise next year. Tyler Schultze is a sophomore who added 12 points Friday night.
Seaman may eventually benefit from this experience:
Nobody likes to be 1-15. The Vikings have a proud program and they don’t accept losing. But their lack of size and difference makers in the upper classes make this a learning experience. But the future is bright with sophomores Ty Henry, Dagen Brewer and Mateo Hyman, and freshman Kaeden Bonner forced into leading roles. That quartet accounted for 29 of Seaman’s 48 points.
