Side note–It was an incredible atmosphere for a CAA regular season game. These two teams are true rivals as they are the only two teams in the area. The game was played at a neutral site and both sides were rocking!
Heritage 93 Sequoia 91
Here were the standouts of the game:
Josh Deakyne PG 6’0 2022 Heritage Academy
-A highly skilled PG. He has a quick burst in the lane and can drive and kick it perfectly to the shooting pocket of a teammate. He can use either hand to score it and has volleyball line 3pt range. He handles pressure really well with his left just as well as his right hand. He smartly changes speeds to keep the defense off balance. Will take charges on the defensive end, as he is one of the state leaders in that category. He took 3 in the game last night.
Malik Charles PF 6’4 2022 Heritage Academy
-Motor motor motor. Charles has an amazing desire to rebound the ball. He is always getting his hands on the ball and in the mix with bigger bodies. He comes with a huge wingspan and a football type of body. His father was a 2nd round draft pick D Lineman by the Miami Dolphins in 1983 from Syracuse. Malik has only been playing for two years and is definitely raw offensively but has many tools to work with for the future and is already a top-notch rebounder and shot blocker.
Ahmari Moody PG 6’1 2022 Heritage Academy
-Silky smooth guard surprised me how fast and quick he was with the ball. He seems to be a step faster then everyone on the court. He keeps his dribble alive through pressure and is a very good passer. He does have a slower shooting release from the 3pt line but the rest of his game is all speed. His shifty handle to go along with his speed are a tough cover.
Logan Porter SF 6’2 2022 Heritage Academy
-A 3pt specialist who is a true floor spacer. He also is tougher than he appears and is an aggressive rebounder. He is very smart and moves without the ball to relocate to an open area. He can hit from mid-range and makes good reads to his team. He can improve his shot selection but it is part of the high power act that the highest scoring team in country play.
Carson Carpenter CG 5’9 2022 Heritage Academy
-A long and lean combo guard. He can handle the ball like a PG and can score it. He has a nice floater game plus he can shoot it from the perimeter. He made the game winning shot from around 8-feet showing no fear. He uses his quicks to play the passing lanes and yet another good soph on the team!
Just watched a crazy high school game end 93-91 on this shot from Carson Carpenter. Heritage Academy in Maricopa. Almost all sophomores. These kids shoot, and then they shoot, and then they shoot some more. S/O to @GreggRosenberg1 for the invite. pic.twitter.com/Y7FX1Us6gU

Jose Miguel SF 6’4 2021 Sequoia Pathway
-One of the more well-rounded players in the CAA. He is very smart, skilled and competitive. He can basically do most things on the court to affect a teams win. He is a very underrated passer and play-maker. He can handle it well and drive the lane to score it with a nice layup package. He has deep range and a nice shooting stroke. He is tough inside to rebound and he almost willed his team to comeback when they were down almost 15.
Miguel had 30 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals showing off his all-around game.
