Hosted by recruiting legend Gerry Freitas this event brings together some of the best programs in California. The Southern Section will be making their final decisions on open divisions bracket seedings immediately after this event. With stakes this high, there should be plenty of star power on display. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top players participating in the So – Cal Finale.
Brenton Knapper 6’0 PG Colony 2021 – I got an up-close and personal look at Knapper this summer during the Fantastic 40. Slick PG, that’s hard to stay in front of. Knapper will get you consistent paint touches and his leadership skills are key to the Titan’s success.
Tyler Powell 6’5 SF Ribet 2021 – Last time I checked in on Powell he was banging 3’s out in Pasadena. The 6’5 sniper is built like an outside linebacker, however much of his game is predicated on his ability to knock down shots. Very simple for me, I want to see if he can shoot it like that again in this environment.
Ignacio Camacho 6’9 C Ribet 2020 – The Guatemalan import is a versatile wing that excels at finishing in transition. Runs the floor well, and has a strong athletic frame, that allows him to finish through contact. High ceiling player with a ton of potential.
Boubacar Coulibaly 6’10 San Gabriel Academy 2020 – Coulibaly always shocks me with his combination of size, skill, and fluidity. He is very comfortable putting the ball on the floor to make a play. It’s not always clean, but he can be very effective off the bounce in transition.
Evan Mobley 7’0 PF Rancho Christian 2020 (featured image) – This may be one of my last times to see one of the top high school players in the class. For my money what makes Mobley special is his ability to put the ball down at his size and make plays. Mobley is extremely comfortable delivering on time and on target passes to teammates. When you factor in that he is also a 7-foot rim protector, easy to see why he’s special.
Dominick Harris 6’4 SG Rancho Chrisitan 2020 – Mobley may be the #1 player, but Harris is no slouch. Explosive wing player with the ability to finish in transition or create for himself. Good two-way player that went for 30 – 5 with 3 steals against Sierra Canyon earlier in the year.
Koat Keat 6’9 C Renaissance Academy 2022 – The Native of Sudan is one of the more intriguing prospects. Good length, and a good athlete with a quick second jump. Willing passer, with a good IQ for the game. This will be a terrific game for Keat to showcase his talent.
Monty Bowser 6’4 SF Bishop O’Dowd 2020 – Bowser will be one of the top two way players on the day. Good defensive ball skills including anticipation and the ability to jump passing lanes. Bowser is the definition of explosive. An elite run and jump athlete that can get off the ground in a hurry and finish over people at the rim. Bowser will be taking his talents to Cal next season.
