Warrensville Heights was able to gin an early 18-16 lead after the first quarter, but it was all Lorain after that. In fact, the Titans were able to outscore the Tigers 16-5 in the second quarter to take a nine-point lead heading into halftime. From there, players like Seth Wilson and Aaron Whitehead led the way for Lorain, propelling them to a 66-52 win Friday night. Here are some of the top performers.
Top Performers
Seth Wilson (2021) | 6-3 G | Lorain
stats: 17 points
One of the most complete guards in the 2021 class, Seth Wilson is the staple to the Lorain offense. He’s developed a pretty consistent jump shot his first season with the Titans and is a very physical guard who will make defenders work in order to try and slow him down on offense. Wilson gets to the basket quite often and can finish through all sorts of contact inside the paint. It takes a lot to try to slow down a player like Wilson, who will be playing college basketball at West Virginia University following his senior season.
Ramelle Arnold (2021) | 5-11 PG | Warrensville Heights
stats: 21 points
It was a slow start to the game for Arnold but he kept his team within striking distance late in the fourth quarter behind an impressive ending to the game for the junior guard. He’s a premier ball-handler and gets past defenders often due to his speed and athleticism. Arnold had a game-high 21 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter to pace the Tiger offense. Arnold still has a bit of growing to do, but is very physical for his size and uses his body well to draw fouls on the offensive side of the ball.
Aaron Whitehead (2020) | 5-10 G | Lorain
stats: 16 points
An underrated scorer, Aaron Whitehead and Seth Wilson present one of the toughest backcourts in Northeast Ohio. Whitehead is a playmaker who does all the little things in order for his teammates to succeed. He took over the game for the Titans in the fourth quarter, scoring eight points and dishing out two assists. Whitehead can’t be overlooked behind the arc, as he’s become a sharpshooter for the team as well, knocking down three 3-pointers during the win.
Omahn Dobbins (2020) | 5-9 G | Warrensville Heights
stats: 13 points
One of the main reasons why the Tigers were ahead of the Titans early on was the stellar play from the senior point guard. Dobbins had 12 of the team’s 18 points in the first quarter. He’s a bit undersized but that doesn’t stop him from attacking the basket at a consistent rate. Dobbins was able to use his quick and short dribbles to carry him to the rim, fighting through contact in the process. He’s always looking to make an extra play for his team on both ends of the floor and he’ll give up an open shot to create a better scoring opportunity for his teammates.
Jamir Billings (2021) | 5-10 PG | Lorain
Another first-year player for Lorain, junior guard Jamir Billings is what you want from a player coming off the bench. On a team with some elite scorers, Billings’ specialty appears to be on the defensive side of the ball as he was able to make a slew of scoring opportunities from the defensive end. He’s one of the best defenders I’ve watched this season and it is a challenge getting past him when he’s playing defense due to his active hands. He’s quick on his feet and was able to force three turnovers alone in the second quarter, something that helped propel the Titans to a nine-point lead heading into halftime.
