Granite Bay started the game with a bigger lineup compared to the Thunder but was outplayed by a more efficient offense while facing a Rocklin defense that applied immense pressure forcing multiple turnovers for the duration of the game. Here are some players from both sides that had an impact on the game.
Emmanual Akpan; Junior; Rocklin.
Emmanual a 6’4 forward was all over the place tonight, a player with a high motor on both ends of the floor. During his time on the court, he was consistently active on every possession trying to give his team the edge. A nice defender paired with a high motor and an offensive player who is active in space, Akpan could make a decent addition to any ball club on the college level. Especially since he has one more year left to play on a team where he will likely become a starter in the 2020-2021 season.
Handre Reinecke; Senior; Rocklin.
Now, this kid has a high ceiling, he did everything right tonight and had his team right where any coach loves to see every time he stepped on the court. A 6’5 power forward/center but he really plays like a strong small forward who has the ability to bully every player that tries to contain him. Reinecke has developed many strong basketball skills such as rebounding, post-up play, passing, and has a nose for the ball. Still, he has much more potential and room for growth as he continues to mature and play at higher levels. Watch out for Handre Reinecke in the next few years as he further develops his skills.
Brian Lambey; Senior; Granite Bay.
A skilled guard for Granite Bay, a shooter to his core. For most of the game, he shot the ball with ease and played well enough on defense to negate his opponent. At one point during the 3rd quarter, he missed four shots in a row and appeared to cool down significantly, although like many great shooters you have to forget about your last shot and keep them flying when you have open shots. That is exactly what Lambey did too end his cold streak before making several shots in a row including a few 3’s. Unfortunately for his team, they were too far down to mount a complete comeback. But this kid could make an excellent 3 and D guard at the next level.
Yaqub Mir; Freshman; Granite Bay.
Yaqub a 6’0 guard played limited minutes tonight but showed that he has a high ceiling since he is still a young player playing on varsity with three more seasons to play after this one. I am excited to watch this player grow during the next few years. Mir played with a lot of energy and shot the ball well. He also showed capable passing skills along with tight defense on players who were older and bigger than him. Mir will only get better as he gets older and plays more minutes for the Grizzlies. Be on the lookout for Yaqub Mir during his high school basketball career as he sharply increases his skills and adds even more to his game.
