The tough 6-foot-3, 190-pound wing has been doing damage for North Marion this year and the Huskies are primed for a post-season run. Jimenez closed out the regular season with an impressive 31-point performance at home on Monday night and for the senior, it’s been been a time he’ll never forget.
“It means a lot to come out here and play with my teammates again,” Jimenez said. “It’s always fun to come out in front of the home crowd and get the ‘W’. We’ve been getting a lot of wins, we’re ranked pretty high and it’s been really fun playing with the group of boys I’m with right now.”
Jimenez really emerged as a scoring threat last season and that has continued this year. His physical nature is very difficult to defend and his ability to finish around the hoop with both hands, often absorbing contact, has been crucial in North Marion’s success. Jimenez isn’t just an undersized forward either as he also showed off some shooting skills outside of the paint and with the ball often in his hands, some impressive passing.
“Over the summer I worked on a lot of shooting and I feel like I’ve become a better shooter than I was last year,” Jimenez said. “I’ve been looking for my teammates and feeding them the ball more often – that’s something I’ve been doing lately. I always look to get my teammates involved in the game and make sure they’re having fun too.”
During the Senior Night festivities, each player was announced along with what their plans are for the future. For Jimenez, that remains up in the air. “Right now I’m deciding between basketball or football at the next level,” Jimenez said. “I’ve been talking to my coaches and I’ll probably decide by the middle of March. I want to check the campuses and see what’s the best fit for me and see what sport I want to do at the end of the day.”
Jimenez – who was Tri-Valley Conference Offensive Player of the year at quarterback – noted that in football he’s heard from Fresno State, Weber State, Lewis & Clark, and Northern Arizona and in basketball he’s heard from Western Oregon and a number of JC programs. He’s looking forward to taking some visits to see what’s out there. “I kind of want to go out of state,” Jimenez said. “I’ve been here my whole life and I kind of want to see new things.”
Visits will have to wait as North Marion has games left to play. Jimenez and his teammates are all ready to make another run to the state tournament and from there, anything is possible. “We’ve got to peak at the right time and hopefully make a long playoff run,” Jimemez said. “Hopefully we can make history this season.”
Jimenez currently ranks as the #67 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
