Continue ReadingRocklin High School has constantly been battling for the top standing in the Sierra Foothill League and with the help of senior standout Darrius Kendall, their chances are high. As a freshman, Kendall has embraced the point guard position, doing whatever the Thunder needed to win games during the rigorous league schedule. The high motor 5’11, 160-pound guard plays with a lot of heart at both ends of the court, and in his senior season, he is hoping to lead Rocklin deep into the CIF playoffs. It is no question that he has proved himself to be one of the top guards in the Sacramento area and will continue to do so for the remainder of his senior year.
“As a team, we’ve been playing really good”, Kendall said. “We are 8-1 in league with two more games in our schedule then its playoff time”. Rocklin holds an impressive 22-5 overall record, hoping to hold there ground atop of the league standings as they are tied for first place with Folsom.
For Darrius, he looks to continue what he’s been doing since he first stepped foot at Rocklin, “lead his team, get people involved and do anything the team needs to go further in the playoffs”, Kendall states.
The versatile guard has the ability to score the ball at all three levels while being able to create for others with ease, unveiling a great feel for the game. Overall, he is very confident in his game and believes he has improved in all characteristics, but his ability to scorch the net has transformed his game. “I’ve put in a lot of work over the past couple of years and my jump shot has got way better since my freshman year”.
On the recruiting front, Darrius is hoping to garner scholarship offers soon. At the moment, he notes that he has been receiving heavy interest from D2 and NAIA schools within the area such as “Cal State Eastbay, Dominican, Chico State, and Cal State Maritime”, Kendall said.
“I want to go to a school that will get me better every day, with an environment where I feel comfortable. I hope to play overseas, and I’d like to be apart of a program that will get me ready for that opportunity”.
