Continue ReadingIt’s likely that Tuesday will be the last game in a Benson uniform for Cobee Crawford, but he doesn’t have any regrets. The strong 6-foot-1, 170-pound lead guard is wrapping up a great senior season for the Techmen, one in which he was looked to lead both vocally and by example. Crawford helped the team fight through adversity and growing pains and as he looks forward to his college future, he’s also set on finishing things out strong next week.
“We’re a young team so I’ve had to step up with my leadership and I just had to be patient,” Crawford said. There were some ups and downs but overall I’m proud of how we worked and it was a good year.”
On the year, Crawford has largely been the team’s man at the point. While facilitating the offense, he continued to score at a 15 points per game pace and picked things up on the other side of the floor as well. “I started off slow and struggled with my leadership but eventually I got it together,” Crawford said. “I started playing better on defense and leading them and it picked up the whole team.”
A hard-nosed guard who plays with a great motor, Crawford is waiting patiently on what will transpire for his college future. He notes that he’s been hearing from Division II schools such as Black Hills State and Newman (Kan.) but also from a number of junior colleges. He’s staying open to all options and is not quite sure what path he may take.
“I might go the JUCO route but I’m going to see,” Crawford said. “It’s just going to depend on what’s the better feel. If I like the JUCO route more then I can do that and hopefully transfer D-I, but I’m just going to play it by ear and keep working my butt off.”
There’s one more game left for Crawford to play as Tuesday night will be senior night at Benson. “The goal is to win, no matter what,” Crawford said. “Hopefully we can do that and I can get my team involved, get assists, and play team basketball.”
Crawford currently ranks as the #22 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
