Continue ReadingMt. Vernon junior Quani Rudd is a 6’6” small forward that is one of the better Illinois wing prospects in the 2021 class. He brings size, athleticism, and improving skill to the table. The Mt. Vernon wing glides to the hoop and makes it look effortless at times. Excellent attacking off the bounce from the mid-range with a couple quick dribbles for scores at the cup. Can post up smaller defenders for high/low conversions. Jump shot continues to look better each time we see him showing consistent mechanics and a clean stroke. Solid wing rebounder and defends multiple spots from the two through four. He spoke with PHI about where he has seen the most growth this season.
“Confidence with the ball and shooting. Last year I wouldn’t shoot and was scared to handle, but now I am doing alright.”
We definitely noticed a huge jump in his ball handling crispness over the last year.
“Jackson Creel and Dylan Hawkins work out with me our two guards. They help me do my ball handling so I can get quicker and that helped me quicker with it.”
What has it been like to be the #1 option for his team each night?
“It is a lot more pressure, but I am not going to back down from it. I like being the go to guy because I trust myself.”
What colleges have extended offers already?
“SIU-Edwardsville and SEMO.”
SIU-Edwardsville landed the best player in southern Illinois in 2020 with Collinsville’s Ray’Sean Taylor and are trying to do the same with Rudd.
“I actually like their coaching staff a lot. I like how they reached out and are friends with our coach. My sister goes there too.”
The Mt. Vernon wing recently checked out a game.
“I liked it a lot. I liked the atmosphere, coaches, and players.”
SEMO is also in pursuit and has been for a while.
“I like SEMO. I like their gym and coaching staff.”
He has no plans for any visits in the near future, but there have been several other schools checking in with him.
“Mizzou called twice. Valpo one time. Tulsa has been texting me. Also SIU-Carbondale.”
Rudd checks in at #15 overall in the latest 2021 PHI Rankings in a super strong class overall and at his wing position.
