What you have to like about this 6’3” point guard is his length and projectability. At a young age he has an excellent feel for the game. Creative passer that makes sound decisions getting others involved. Slick ball handler that weaves in and out of the defense. Can finish with either hand at the rim. Smooth athlete that makes plays in the lane for himself and others. Decent shooter that can stretch it to three point range.
King broke down his season so far.
“My sophomore year is going good. I started off the year kind of slow and I knew I had to pick it up. That is what I did. I am now playing like I should be playing.”
Where has he seen the most growth as a player?
“My confidence. I started off the season lacking confidence. My shooting has gotten really good. Slashing beating my defenders and finishing.”
His passing has taken major strides when we have evaluated him this year.
“I have made the transition from last year when I was playing freshman ball where I facilitate a lot. Now I have made the transition to be more of a scorer for the team. Now that I have both options it has made it easier for me so I don’t have to feel pressure to do just one thing all the time.”
One in-state program has already taken notice of him.
“SIU is looking at me. I went to their preseason game. It was awesome seeing it down there. The weight room was awesome. The experience was great. Everyone showed me love from the coaching staff to the players.”
He recently took a trip to Southern Illinois and gave us his thoughts on the visit.
“I liked the atmosphere in this game better than the previous game I’ve attended. It gave me a more in-depth look at how the environment is at SIU and how intense the games really get at the next level. I also enjoyed how welcoming the staff and fans were. It felt natural being there. Looking forward to hopefully the next opportunity to go down there again!”
He also has a trip scheduled to Evansville coming up soon as well. Last summer he made a name for himself with the Illinois Bears on the PrepHoops Circuit.
“It went awesome. I went from unranked to ranked and now I am ranked even higher. I have to thank my freshman coach who got me into playing with the Bears because to be honest I don’t know where I would be without playing with the Bears. It was a humbling experience and opened me up to see I can actually play with these guys.”
