Continue ReadingSpringfield Southeast 2021 shooting guard James Dent is one of the premier scoring wings in the junior class. The 6’5” long and wiry two guard is excellent with his feathery jumper along with his ability to create off the bounce. His biggest strength is how he can knock down jump shots. Free and easy release from beyond the arc hitting them at a high rate from deep. As a scorer off the dribble he is improving that area tightening up his handles and getting to the rim. His middle game in the 15-18 feet area is also getting better utilizing a jab step to open up space for his shot. Rebounds well for a wing. Much improved passer since the summer displaying an improved feel for the game. Defensively he can check either wing spot and gets in passing lanes frustrating opponents.
Dent broke down his junior season with Southeast!
“It is going pretty good. At the beginning of the season I was a little lackadaisical, but now I am doing good leading the team and bringing home the wins.”
Where has he evolved as a player this year?
“The post. Getting it to the elbow and using my jab step. Making my game all around. I started off just shooting threes, but now I am able to get inside and create for my teammates.”
Last year he was just a spot up shooter, but with the graduation of Anthony Fairlee and Terrion Murdix he is now the guy.
“It has been pretty good. They talk to me all the time. They say I have to bring it. They know I have it in me. I had to play a role last year. They seen it in me multiple games last year.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“Murray State and Bradley have been talking to me.”
The top 20 junior broke down both programs.
Murray State
“They keep in touch with me. They are trying to make me like a family with them. I feel like they want to make me the next Ja Morant. They are good at getting their guards to the league.”
Bradley
“I like the campus a lot. When I went down there on my unofficial the team opened me with open arms. It was like I was already with the team. I am looking forward to getting down there again soon.”
