Chaparral was the higher seed but it was 16 vs 17, so it was going to be a good game.
Tucson came down without their star guard Kaden Luna but still came away with the victory at 63-55. The Badgers play really hard and are tough kids.
First year head coach Daryl Jones has turned things around quickly. and has them playing with confidence.
Chaparral has a lot of youth on the roster and will be very competitive next year.
Here were some of the standouts from the game:
Mark Hunter PG 5’10 2020 Tucson
-A tough and strong downhill guard. He is a bully on-ball defender and uses his tighter handle and compact body to get into the lane and score through contact or get fouled.
Yahir Garcia SG 6’4 2021 Tucson
-A long and athletic scoring guard. He has a nice first step and has deep 3pt range. He is somewhat thin but is not afraid to attack the basket. He is very active on defense and will block shots plus fight his opponent inside showing his toughness.
Kambreal O’Bannon SF 6’4 2021 Tucson
-Simply put, this kid is a big time athlete. He had one big time dunk plus one of the better missed dunk attempts I have seen in a while. He did get fouled and made the FT’s. He loves getting downhill and finishing off acrobatic layups in traffic. He can improve his perimeter shooting long term but brings a lot of energy to each game.
Francisco Miranda PF 6’6 2021 Tucson
-A post player who is active and came up big tonight. He can face-up from elbow and in but is best working in the post. He has advanced post footwork and counter moves to score it. He is an aggressive rebounder and sparked their big 3rd qtr run.
Jorden Josephs SF 6’5 2020 Chaparral
-Athletic forward likes scoring in the paint. He is an active multi-positional defender and a capable 3pt shooter. He is a sneaky good passer and is highly competitive.
Matthew Whisler PG 6’1 2020 Chaparral
-A fast improving prospect has a nice looking stroke. He can size you up and hit from well beyond the line. He is a cerebral passer and has a floater game. He has improved every year for the Firebirds.
Jevon Humphrey SG 6’1 2021 Chaparral
-A skilled scoring guard is best from mid-range. He has a compact stroke and has a stronger frame. He is improving scoring off the dribble and can make the 3. He will be asked to lead the team in scoring next year.
