The last name Wagner brings a lot of pressure playing high school basketball in New Jersey. DJ is handling it perfectly through his freshman season at Camden.
DJ’s father, Dajuan, was one of the top New Jersey high school players ever. He famously scored 100 points in a single game and set the all-time career record with 3,462 points. He went on to play one season at Memphis before being taken No. 6 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. DJ’s grandfather, Milt, scored 2,003 points at Camden. He then went on to win the 1986 NCAA Championship at Louisville and a NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1988.
It is now DJ’s turn to continue the legacy and he is off to a hot start. Camden is 23-1 overall and has won 19 in a row. They have propelled to the No. 1 ranking in New Jersey behind Wagner’s team leading 17.3 points per game. Wagner is high regarded as one of the top players in the nation in the Class of 2023.
Wagner is a dynamic player who can score in many ways. He has knocked down 52 three-pointers this season. Wagner can also drive inside and draw contact. He has hit 62 free throws this season. At 6’2, Wagner already has great size at the guard position and he will continue to grow over the next few years. Wagner’s skill is extremely advanced for someone who is just 14-years old.
Wagner has scored 415 points already this season. He has a ton of work to do if he wants to catch his father, but he will continue to get better. Wagner is on pace to score his 1,000th point late in his sophomore season. Camden is a team with a lot of star power including Kentucky commit Lance Ware. Wagner is already the No. 1 option and will hope to lead Camden to a state championship. They are a team that can dominate the postseason and win the Tournament of Champions.
