The still-growing 6-foot-2 guard from Sherwood had his outside shot on automatic in the Bowmen’s road win over Century and in the end, he had nailed five of Sherwood’s season-high 17 threes as the Bowmen maintained an undefeated record in Pacific Conference play.
“I was doing the easy part, just catching and shooting,” Krauel said. “My teammates were finding me so it was all their vision, all their passes. It’s been a good season. We’re starting to come together and it’s a really good group of kids and we’re a tough team to beat.”
Krauel is obviously great in catch-and-shoot situations. But the guard also showed off a nice hard dribble pull-up jumper and made some good decisions with his passing. Defensively, Krauel is a stalwart as the defending Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Year and against Century, he played some tremendous lockdown denial and on-the-ball defense on hia assignments. Physically he’s been growing and filling out, adding strength and muscle to his frame and it’s been showing with his play.
“I’ve been getting in the weight room and that’s been a big part of that,” Krauel said. “Just getting stronger has helped me with finishing, driving, and shooting – which I think has been getting on a higher level. So has my rebounding and my defense – when you guard the best player in the state (Jamison Guerra) every day in practice that helps.”
Krauel is a multi-sport athlete as he excels in track and field, specializing in the javelin. He’s hoping to possibly pursue both hoops and track at the college level, and while there hasn’t been any interest as of yet, there are some connections as his older brother Robert was an all-conference performer at Puget Sound.
While Krauel does have college on his mind – he hopes to play some spring hoops along with competing in track – there are still games left to played with Sherwood and he’s looking forward to some big things. “We played a really tough non-conference schedule and that set us up for league,” Krauel said. “Our goal is the Chiles Center and I think we can get there with hard work and dedication.”
Krauel currently ranks as the #41 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
