NOTES: Monterey lost to Jackson County Tuesday evening, 69-64. It was only Jackson County’s 10th win of the season.
1. Booker T. Washington (20-4)
District Record: 14-0
Peak: 1
In their last six games, the Warriors of Booker T. Washington High are 5-1.
A deserving #1, Booker T. Washington defeated 2018 State Champion Hamilton High. [EXCERPT: Senior guard Charterio Porter led the Warriors with 31 points. Senior guard JC Johnson added 16. Senior forward Trashun Marion provided 20. Porter made big shots each time the Wildcats cut their deficit to single digits.] Read the full game story here. Booker T. smacked the fearless Whitehaven Tigers, 66-56. Their first two losses of the season were to a top 3 team in Class AAA, Whitehaven.
J.C. Johnson is an incredible guard, one of the best in the city.
2. Madison Academic (25-2)
District Record: 10-0
Peak: 2
Hub City Classic Champions! From 2015 to 2018, the Mustangs won a combined 11 games. This is a new day. In the one December week alone Madison Academic defeated three Class AA teams, two of them among the best in Region 7AA: South Gibson, Crockett County. James Anderson (Madison Academic) averaged 19 ppg during the the HUB City Classic. He earned Hub City Classic MVP.
3. McKenzie (23-3)
District Record: 9-1
Peak: 1
We predicted a 26-0 season once they hit 16-0, but McKenzie absorbed a tough loss to a tough team, West Carroll. “Last night just wasn’t our night looking at the game report,” observed Lucas King. King is the 31st best recruit in the state and the 6th best unsigned point guard. “We went 22-59 from the field to their 21-43. We also had more turnovers than assists and we went 9-14 on free throws while they went 13-15. That loss just came down to us playing bad in my opinion.”
4. MAHS (16-6)
District Record: 13-1
Peak: 4
Captured the best win to that point of any Class A team all season (win over former Class AA PrepHoopsTN #1 Fayette Ware). After the calendar turned, #1 Booker T. Washington snapped off a win against Whitehaven, bumping MAHS’ high quality win down to second best.
MAHS is a mere 0.5 games behind Booker T. Washington in the most talented district with a 13-1 district record. The Lions dropped all three games to Manassas a year ago. Juniors David Dixon (PrepHoopsTN #35) and Kendal Ducksworth (PrepHoopsTN #85) are two of the better Lions.
5. Clay County (22-3)
District Record: 12-2
Peak: 5
District 6A Champions!
The three losses of Clay County were: @Gordonsville, @York Institute, @Monterey.
Defeated Gordonsville and put down Red Boiling Springs. Monterey lost to the Clay County Bulldogs a week before Christmas, then retaliated with a 74-68 win late January.
Bulldogs regain control of District 6A with a commanding win over the Gordonsville Tigers 67-41. A huge third quarter run (26-4) and great bench play led the way. The win improves our record to 18-2 and 7-1 in District 6A play.

6. Fayetteville (20-4)
District Record: 8-2
Peak: 4
It deserves mention that FHS is replacing the District 8A Tournament MVP Julius Dixon (Morehead State). FHS managed to succeed through the toughest portion of their schedule. The Tigers did lose at Eagleville, as everybody does. Considering FHS defeated EHS January 24th it is a wonder FHS is in second place in D8A. That loss to Moore County stings. It stings and it stings.
7. Monterey (22-5)
District Record: 10-3
Peak: 3
Jackson County ended their regular season with a shocking win over Monterey. MHS plays their final regular season game tonight against Trousdale County before embarking on, what they hope will be, a deep playoff run.
Peyton West is a sharpshooting guard turning heads among small college coaches. King of the Smokies Christmas Classic Champions. Played three current or former Top 10 teams mid-December (Red Boiling Springs, Clay County, Pickett County). Clay County narrowly dispatched of Monterey in that mid-December tussle.
8. West Carroll (21-6)
Last Week: 9-1
Peak: 6
The reason former #1 McKenzie suffered their first loss, deep into the regular season. West Carroll drew a seemingly endless number of fouls against MHS.
9. Loretto (20-5)
District Record: 10-0
Peak: 9
Debut. The Mustangs follow their star senior guard Amauri Young.
10. Eagleville (20-6)
District Record: 9-1
Peak: 7
Ryley McClaran (Eagleville) signed to Freed-Hardeman. He surpassed 2,000 career points.
Newcomers: Eagleville.
Dropped: Manassas.
