While the tournament will be filled with good, competitive teams, it’s the scoring ability of the following athletes that have stood out during the 2019-2020 campaign.
David Luberoff – Sophomore – Midland Park
The versatile Sophomore, Luberoff, for Midland Park may be the most prolific scorer in Group 1 play. After a pair of down games in early January, Luberoff has been on a tear highlighted by a 34 point game this week against Lyndhurst. Luberoff is a throwback talent, not looking to shoot the ball on the perimeter, instead, taking advantage of opposing players in the paint. In addition, the powerful big man takes smart shots and racked up over 500 points on the season.
Logan Wejnert – Sophomore – Waldwick
Sophomore guard Wejnert doesn’t have the size that will intimidate opponents, only standing at 5’10, but his game is big! Leading Waldwick to a down 10-16 record this year, the team’s best offensive weapon will take his 18.2 points per game average into the state tournament. Wejnert shouldn’t be overlooked in his ability to score the basketball scoring 36 points twice this season and most recently hanging 33 points on Bergen Charter in a 64-55 win for Waldwick. Wejnert can score inside or out, but your best bet is to throw doubles at him and force the ball out of his hands. Good luck!
Taj Collins- Junior – Bogota
Maybe the best player in the entire group, the Junior standout Collins of Bogota, is an overall complete player on the offensive side of the basketball. The 6’1 junior is as steady as they come bringing his average of 14.7 points per game into the tournament. While his totals may not be fascinating in a sense, he passes every eye test and netted a season-high 26 points against Midland Park in January. Look for Collins to be more urgent during state tournament play and post big offensive numbers.
Kristian Radovich – Senior – Cresskill
Radovich is a proven senior that knows how to score the basketball at any cost. Whether it’s at the basket or on the perimeter, Cresskill’s best weapon on offense is a mismatch on most nights. A versatile scorer, Radovich connected on over 40 three-pointers this season and netted over 400 total points with an average of roughly 18 per contest. Cresskill will rely on his offense to advance during tournament time.
Kunga Tsering Kunga Tsering 6'6" | SF Woodstock Academy | 2022 State NLG – Junior Hasbrouck Heights
A Sophomore with impressive size at 6’6, 190 pounds, Tsering has continued to produce as Hasbrouck Heights’ go-to guy. While Tsering may be best known for his dominating rebounding — even totaling 20 in a December game this year, his scoring has been nothing to snooze at. Tsering has proven to be at his best scoring in the paint. With a scoring average of over 17 points per contest, look for Tsering to be a force in the upcoming tournament.
