The season in its final stretch. With teams jockeying for positions in their leagues and regions, games take on heightened importance. And with many teams seemingly playing backloaded schedules, there are going to be numerous opportunities for teams to earn high-quality wins from here on out.
Jamestown
The Bluejays all but locked up a second consecutive WDA title last week, winning three games including two over upper-echelon teams. Jamestown beat Bismarck Century 84-70, getting 40 points from Boden skunberg and Carson Lamp. The Bluejays backed that up with a massive win over Minot, where once again, Skunberg was a force, scoring 37 points. Jamestown is sitting at 15-2 on the year and 14-2 in the WDA with a two-game lead on Bismarck with four games to go.
Enderlin
The Eagles have been one of the best teams in Class B all year, but for all their success, outside of the first game of the year (a win over Hatton/Northwood), they haven’t been tested a whole lot. Consider that box checked now, as Enderlin picked up two wins last week over quality Region 1 opponents. The Eagles beat Central Cass 79-66 thanks to terrific efforts from Gus Hurlburt and Dawson Lemna and defeated Richland in comeback fashion with Joe Hurlburt leading the way. The Eagles are now 16-1 on the season and will have a shot at securing the No. 1 seed in Region 1 next week.
Bismarck Legacy
There might not be a hotter team in the state than the Sabers. They’ve won six games in a row. The Sabers started the week with an upset with over Minot, with Nick Kupfer making his return to the lineup. The junior shooting guard scored 10 points in the win, getting to the free throw line six times. Keagen Woodbury and Rhett Clements did a lot of the heavy lifting offensively, combining to score 33 of the team’s 67 points. The Sabers wrapped the week up with a win over Bismarck Century, with Woodbury again leading the way with 22 points on 11 shots.
Hillsboro/Central Valley
After going through a bit of a midseason swoon, the Burros have seemingly found their game again. Hillsboro picked up a pair of of excellent wins last week. The first required greatness from all-state guard Carson Henningsgard, as the 6-foot-1 senior dropped 36 points in a comeback win over Grafton/St. Thomas. The Burros backed that up with a solid 53-49 win over Shiloh Christian. Balance was the key to that win as Oscar Benson and Landen Reed had solid outings. The Burros are now 14-4 on the year and looking formidable ahead of the postseason.
