And with many teams seemingly playing backloaded schedules, there are going to be numerous opportunities for teams to earn high-quality wins from here on out.
Here were teams that had particularly strong weeks
Grand Forks Red River
The Roughriders have pretty clearly emerged as the third best team in the EDC as the season’s gone along. They all but sealed that fate last week when they beat Devils Lake 76-59, getting 28 points from senior guard Cole Benson. Kobe Springer stepped up big in the team’s win over Fargo North, scoring 20 of the Roughriders’ 62 points. And Will Obioha was strong in all three wins last week. When he rounds into full form, this group is good enough to get to state and win multiple games.
Thompson
The Tommies might not have the same kind of high-end talent they did a year ago, but they are shaping into a team nobody is going to want to play come the postseason. Thompson won three games last week, stretching its winning streak to eight games, including a 52-51 Saturday win over No. 1 Four Winds/Minnewaukan. Chance Danner and Clay Odenbach continue to control the paint on both ends of the floor, delivering regular double-doubles against just about everybody.
Kindred
The Vikings were a fringe top-five team in Class B to start the year and after a slow start, they’ve hit their stride. They earned a big statement win last Monday, beating reigning region champ Richland 64-56. Kindred is on an 11-game winning streak after also beating Oak Grove and May-Port-C-G.
Underwood
The Comets won twice last week, beating Center-Stanton and Linton/HMB, improving to 13-2 on the season. After winning 12 games last year, Underwood has surpassed its season win total already. Defense has been the team’s calling card all year, as they allow less than 45 points per game and the senior trio of Ty Snyder, Parker Christenson and Kayden Homberger provide excellent production.
