With district and region races heating up, teams are ideally hitting their peaks and playing their best ball. With big games occurring on almost a nightly basis, there are opportunities for teams to stack together quality wins at every turn.
Here are last week’s top teams:
Devils Lake
The Firebirds are in the mix for a top four spot in the EDC and earning three wins last week will go a long way towards them accomplishing that feat. Devils Lake had to gut out a victory over a pesky Fargo North squad Monday, beating the Spartans 61-59. They took care of business against Fargo South the following night and ended the week by exacting revenge on Fargo Shanley, 65-56. Grant Nelson is turning in a Player-of-the-Year type of season for the Firebirds and he was a monster in all three games.
Shiloh Christian
The Skyhawks rarely go a week without playing at least one high-quality team and last Saturday, they picked up one of the most impressive wins of the season, beating undefeated Rugby 66-64. Jaden Mitzel and Trey Brunelle were terrific, combining for 42 points and the overall team defense was staunch once again, as the Skyhawks held the Panthers to just 6 of 23 shooting from the 3-point line.
Bismarck
The Demons are in the thick of things for a top-three finish in the WDA and getting two wins last week puts them in the driver’s seat for the No. 2 spot. Bismack kicked off the week by securing a second victory over Minot, beating the Magicians 91-79 thanks in large part to 27 points from Gunner Swanson, 14 made 3-pointers and 23 forced turnovers. They ended the week with a 74-66 win over Dickinson – a game in which the Demons overcame awful shooting by forcing 24 turnovers and getting nine guys in the scoring column.
Lewis and Clark – North Shore
Don’t sleep on the Wildcats out of Region 8. Lewis and Clark – North Shore earned two excellent wins last week, beating fellow Region 8 contender White Shield in Roseglen by 25 before beating a very good Our Redeemers 65-59 on Saturday. Ty Edwards is one of the best shooters in Class B and Hayden Andes is a force in the paint.
