The Indians overcame a brutal offensive showing in a win over Shiloh Christian over the weekend to finish the regular season 18-1. Doug Yankton and Bronson Walter were excellent in the win over the Skyhawks. Four Winds has the balance on both ends of the floor to win when the offense is off, but also plenty of firepower to win in a shootout.
Hatton/Northwood
The Thunder had another impressive week, beating a really good Kindred team to start the week before beating Thompson to secure the No. 1 seed in Region 2. Hatton/Northwood will face Drayton/Valley-Edinburg in the regular-season finale and then it’ll head into the Region 2 tournament as the favorite to get to state.
Enderlin
The Eagles earned a pair of wins last week, blowing out Milnor/North Sargent before beating Oak Grove to improve to 18-1 on the season. Balance was the key in the win over M/NS as five guys scored more than 10 points and a sixth added nine. They’ll get their shot at the No. 1 seed in Region 1 this week, as they face Kindred in the regular-season finale.
Rugby
Rugby picked up a pair of dominant wins last week, improve to 17-2 on the season. The Panthers blew out Bishop Ryan, getting a double-double from Isaiah Bundy-Smith and 21 points and six boards from Jaden Hamilton. They dominated a solid Dunseith team to end the week, with several guys piling up impressive stat lines. Bundy-Smith was terrific, scoring 13 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out nine assists while Devan Michels scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists.
Kindred
The Vikings lost to Hatton/Northwood by eight last week before beating Hankinson and Oakes in thorough fashion. A massive matchup with Enderlin is on the horizon this week, as the No. 1 seed is up for grabs for both teams. The winner gets the No. 1 spot and a much easier path to the region final.
St. John
The Woodchucks bounced back from a two-loss week with a pair of blowout wins over Dakota Prairie and Bottineau. St. John will be the No. 2 seed in District 8 and likely to face Dunseith in the first round of the playoffs – the host site of the district tournament. The Woodchucks have the balance, experience and depth to challenge Four Winds in Region 4.
Beulah
The Miners edged Beach in nip-and-tuck fashion to stay atop the Region 7 standings. Trey Brandt scored 26 of the team’s 44 points to stave off an upset bid from the Buccaneers. Beulah is 17-3 on the season and hasn’t lost since December and will undoubtedly be the favorite to get to state for the third year in a row.
Dickinson Trinity
The Titans beat Hazen last week, improving to 17-3 on the year. Dickinson Trinity looks like the team best equipped to take down Beulah in Region 7 and good enough to win multiple games in the state tournament if it can get there. The Titans have strength in numbers with good offensive balance and depth plus an elite defense.
Langdon/Edmore/Munich
The Cardinals are going to be going into the postseason with some serious momentum and the chops to win a loaded Region 4 despite being ranked behind Four Winds and St. John. Simon and Grant Romfo have been awesome all year. Jackson Delvo and Ordale Morstad have been excellent too, and were terrific in the team’s blowout win over Midkota in the regular season finale.
Hillsboro/Central Valley
The Burros secured the No. 2 seed in Region 2 with three solid wins last week. H/CV blew out May-Port-C-G and North Border, to start and end the week with a win over a red-hot Thompson team sandwiched in between. Carson Henningsgard delivered in a big way, scoring 32 in the win over Thompson and 30 against North Border.
