Since suffering a loss to Minot, the Bluejays have been nothing but dominant, winning seven games including five by 15 points or more. Boden Skunberg, Carson Lamp and Brooks Carroll form the best trio in the state but role guys like Keith Levin (8.3 points, 7.1 rebounds), Jacob Hilgemann and Shea Carroll have been instrumental in the team’s success too.
Fargo Davies
Since the hiccup loss to Grand Forks Central, the Eagles have been utterly dominant, crushing EDC opponents by 30.8 points per game. Nobody has the combination of depth, size and shooting that the Eagles do. They dominate teams on the glass with waves of solid players on all levels of the court.
West Fargo Sheyenne
The Mustangs are right there with the Eagles at the top of the EDC as the two look like they are on a collision course for the league title (they meet for a rematch in the final game of the regular season). A big key in their recent surge has been solid play from reserves like Barika Kpeenu (eight ppg in last seven games) and Jah’Heem Leake (7.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg on the year).
Bismarck
The Demons are 3-2 in their last five games with losses to Bismarck Legacy and Jamestown but also wins over Bismarck Century, Dickinson and Minot. Bismarck’s depth is unparalleled in the WDA, as four guys average at least 10 points and five more average 4.1-8.0. The Demons play a style that is hard to prepare for as they come at the opposition in waves, forcing turnovers and playing at a faster pace than just about everybody else.
Minot
When at their best, the Magicians have as much firepower, depth and high-end talent as any team in the state. There seems to be a degree of variance in their play that makes them susceptible to defeats more than some of the other top-end outfits around the state. Turnovers are the biggest hindrance, as the Magicians have a negative assist-turnover differential.
Mandan
The Braves are seemingly hitting their stride, as they’ve won six of eight since a 49-point loss to Minot. Their two losses are by three combined points to Jamestown and Dickinson and wins over Minot and Bismarck Legacy (twice). Jaxton Wiest is back in the lineup and while he hasn’t shot the ball as well as he’s capable, his impact on the team is undeniable.
Bismarck Century
The Patriots are 8-6 on the year and one of the best defensive teams in the state. They’ll never be out of a game because of their defense and Cade Feeney and as the season has gone on, Ian Ely is showing signs of life offensively. Cyan Sorenson and Griffin Jensen have also given the team good minutes as of late.
Bismarck Legacy
The Sabers have won three games in a row to improve to 9-7 on the year and just beat a solid Dickinson team by 21 points. Rhett Clements has been excellent most of the year but in recent games, it’s been a lot of the role-players picking things up. Ben Patton and the sophomore trio of Zander Albers, Joe Buzalsky and Logan Wetzel have been instrumental to the team’s string of solid play.
Grand Forks Red River
There is a clear line of demarcation in the EDC. The top tier features Fargo Davies and West Fargo Sheyenne. Grand Forks Red River seemingly has the second tier all to itself. They are 0-4 against those two teams, losing by 2, 23, 30 and 28, but are undefeated against the rest of the EDC. Will Obioha has given the Roughriders a boost since returning to the lineup, averaging 14.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Dickinson
The Midgets have hit the skids in recent games, dropping three in a row to the Bismarck schools. As good as Jaiden Wright and Kobe Krenz have been throughout the season, it’s getting dangerously close to too much of two guys. In their recent loss to Bismarck Legacy, those two took 37 of the team’s 49 shots. The Midgets need guys like Tallon Klatt and Jayden Hocker to produce a little more offensively to take the pressure off their star duo.
