The Eagles had an impressive week, beating Devils Lake in grind-it-out fashion before blowing the doors off West Fargo to improve to 19-1 on the season. A 32-point lead on the Packers at halftime illustrates just how dominant the Eagles can be when they turn things on, but a win over Devils Lake in which they didn’t play their best also shows that they are capable of winning the grimy games. Ty Satter had another excellent week, scoring 20 points and piling up eight steals in the win over Devils Lake while Cam Van Dam was excellent in the win over West Fargo with 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win over West Fargo.
West Fargo Sheyenne
The Mustangs took care of business last week, gutting out a win over Fargo North before beating Devils Lake handily to improve to 18-1 on the season. Zion Dettman has had a solid season overall, but he’s picked his game up in a big way in recent weeks – and he was terrific last week, scoring 18 points and dishing out seven assists in the win over Fargo North before scoring 19 in the 61-42 win over Devils Lake.
Jamestown
The Bluejays took a puzzling loss to Williston last week (Boden Skunberg didn’t play) but beat Bismarck Legacy and blew out Watford City to win the WDA regular season title for the second year in a row. Jamestown will face Mandan in the regular season finale and go into the WDA tournament as the No. 1 seed regardless of the result.
Bismarck
The Demons ended Mandan’s six-game winning streak with a 73-67 win on Tuesday and then beat Turtle Mountain to move to 16-4 on the season. Bismarck secured the No. 2 finish in the WDA – an impressive feat for a team with zero players with varsity experience before the season started. Gunner Swanson led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds in the win over the Braves and went for 24 points and five boards in the win over Turtle Mountain.
Minot
The Magicians bounced back with a strong week, beating Watford City and Dickinson to move to 14-6 on the season. Minot all but secured a top-four finish in the WDA – thus securing a first round bye in the WDA Tournament – and will face Bismarck Century in the regular season finale. Jaxon Gunville, Deonte Martinez and Easton Larson combined for 65 points in the win over the Midgets.
Mandan
The Braves’ winning streak finally ended last week when they lost to Bismarck. But the Braves bounced back with a solid win over Bismarck Century, getting 27 points and 13 rebounds from Elijah Klein. Klein only took seven shots in the loss to the Demons, providing evidence to his importance. If he gets touches and shots inside, he’s going to dominate.
Bismarck Legacy
The Sabers lost a grind-it-out affair with Jamestown, struggling to generate offense. Zander Albers has been a positive in recent weeks, elevating his play over the second half of the season. If the Sabers are going to go on the run in the postseason, they need Rhett Clements to get back on track offensively, as his numbers have dipped a bit in recent weeks. The Sabers can still secure the No. 5 spot in the WDA – the top five seeds get first-round byes in the WDA Tournament – with a win and a loss by Dickinson.
Dickinson
The Midgets have the easiest path to securing the No. 5 seed in the WDA – and a first-round bye in the WDA Tournament – as they face Bismarck St. Mary’s in the regular season finale. They split a pair of games last week, losing to Minot after blowing out Williston. Jaiden Wright and Kobe Krenz have been mostly awesome all year – and the Midgets will largely go where those two take them – but the big key still remains the play of Jayden Hocker, Talon Klatt and Alex Praus. Hocker was terrific in the win over Williston, scoring 17 points on nine shot attempts.
Bismarck Century
The Patriots split a pair of games last week, beating Bismarck St. Mary’s before losing to Mandan – a game in which Cade Feeney struggled mightily. Anthony Doppler had a solid week, averaging 14 points in the two games. The big key for the Patriots will be finding a consistent third scorer, as Feeney has been a stud and Ian Ely has settled into a reliable-ish No. 2 role. Century can still finish fifth in the WDA – and earn a first-round bye – but it faces Minot in the regulars-season finale.
Grand Forks Red River
The Roughriders bounced back from a bad loss to end the previous week by blowing out Valley City. Grand Forks Red River has bigger fish to fry than the lower tier of the EDC and they’ll get games against Fargo Shanley and Wahpeton to gear up for a run in the league tournament. Brady Dvorak had a monster game, scoring 33 points, dishing out six assists and racking up eight steals in the win.
