Summit has been solid all year, while Rahway and Snyder both have the potential to pull off an upset. The guard play in this group is some of the best in the state with high level guards scattered across the group. Here are the guards to watch in North 2 Group 3.
Christian Cevis, 6’0 PG West Morris 2021
The Wolfpack have been one of the most effective offenses in the country because of Cevis’ ability to run the offense. The junior point guard rarely makes mistakes with the ball in his hands and is an elite passer. Cevis can break down his defender off the bounce and knock down perimeter jump shots. He is an elite on-ball defender with quick hands and knows how to move his feet. His chemistry with Ryan Hillier and Ethan Stoute makes West Morris the team to beat in North 2 Group 3.
Moses Pierre, 6’0 CG Irvington 2020
Pierre has been playing at a high level all season as he is averaging over 20 points per game. He excels at attacking the basket and knows how to make layups through contact. Pierre is a strong rebounder who is unafraid to go up against bigger opponents. He is a solid on-ball defender and has a good chemistry with classmate Karriem Thomas. The senior duo have been dynamic all season and are looking to end their varsity careers with a state title.
Eric Baier, 6’3 SG Summit 2020
Summit has been one of the surprise teams of the season as the Hilltoppers are 22-3 on the season. Baier has been a big reason for the team’s success as he is one of the top scorer’s in the state. The Colby College commit knows how to get to the basket and can finish through contact. Baier can knock down three-pointers and works well off of TCNJ commit Jackson Rind. Summit is looking to make some noise in North 2 Group 3 and the Hilltoppers will need Baier to be at his best.
Ernest Carter, 6’0 PG Rahway 2021
Carter transferred in from St. Thomas Aquinas in the offseason and has had an immediate impact on Rahway’s offense. The junior guard is at his best when he attacks the basket and can knock down shots in the mid-range. Carter has a good handle and can knock down perimeter jumpers. He has a good chemistry with Tahlee Bailey and Amari Thompson, making Rahway a dangerous team in North 2 Group 3.
Shy’heed Jenkins-Floyd, PG Snyder 2022
Snyder is led by senior Corey Manning-Floyd, but he has a good complimentary scorer in Jenkins-Floyd. The sophomore guard is a blur in the open floor who excels at getting to the basket. Jenkins-Floyd can knock down perimeter jumpers and knows how to get his teammates involved. His on-ball defense may be his best strength as he is a thief in the backcourt with his combination of instincts and quick hands. Snyder has the potential to pull off an upset in the state tournament, but needs Jenkins-Floyd to be at his best.
