The final week of January is the perfect time for players to get hot. February means conference and state tournament time. The most important games of the season will be this month and these players are ready for prime time. Here are the top performers from last week around New Jersey.
Lorenzo Repack (2020) | Northern Burlington
Repack is going nuts in his final season playing basketball. He is a Monmouth baseball commit but he has some dominating to do on the court first. He began the week with 22 points in a win over Westampton Tech. Repack then scored 21 points against Medford Tech and followed it up with a career-high 37 points against Cinnaminson. He hit his 100th career three in the game against Medford Tech as well.
Keyshun Sanders (2022) | Paulsboro
As a sophomore, Sanders has emerged as a two-way threat. He is a dynamic scorer on offense and a thief on defense. In a win over Salem, Sanders finished with 21 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and eight steals. He followed that up with 12 points and five steals against Haddonfield and 17 points and six steals in a win over Collingswood. Sanders is averaging 17.3 points and 4.5 steals per game.
Roland Leiva (2021) | Lodi
Leiva was a scoring machine during Lodi’s two games last week. He began the week with six three’s against Pompton Lakes on his way to 31 points. The second game was a win over Wallington where Leiva scored 23 points. His 54 total points was second in the Big North.
Demetrius Paynter (2020) | Timber Creek
Paynter has led Timber Creek to eight straight wins and has them ranked No. 13 in the state. In a win over Lenape, Paynter finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds. He followed that up with 15 points and 17 rebounds in a big win over Seneca. The senior is averaging 16.4 points and 14.1 rebounds per game. He is a true big man and has been a guaranteed double-double for Timber Creek.
DJ Thomson (2022) | Keyport
Thomson was the Shore Conference’s leading scorer last week. He began with 25 points in a loss to Ranney. He then scored a season-high 36 points against Somerset Tech and 21 in a blowout win over Henry Hudson. Thomson has completely arrived in his sophomore season and is a dynamic scorer in the Shore Conference.
Rasher Fleming (2022) | Gloucester
Fleming has been putting up strong numbers all season but he went full video game mode last week. Fleming’s first game was a 22 point, 19 rebound performance against Schalick. He then had 15 points and 18 rebounds against Pennville. Fleming is a player who can dominate on the inside and also on the perimeter. Gloucester has something special with this sensational sophomore.
