(1) Dayshawn Wiley 6’3 SG Desert Pines (#8) – Elite athlete with the ability to defender the perimeter and block shots.
Strengths: Defensive versatility
Versatility: Defends 1- 3
Best Skill: Rim protection from a backcourt position.
(2) Anthony Swift 6’6 PF Desert Pines (#5) – High energy forward, capable of hedging and switching ball screens. Big time competitor that takes pride in being an anchor on the defensive end.
Strengths: Rim protection
Versatility: Defends 2- 4
Best Skill: Alters and blocks shots.
(3) Lorenzo Abellar 5’8 PG Liberty (#14) (featured image) – Pitbull defender. Abellar has good lateral quickness, and will get underneath ballhandlers to disrupt their dribble, and ability to run the offense.
Strengths: On Ball Defense
Versatility: Defends PG’s
Best Skill: Disrupt opposing point guards’ ability to dribble and organize.
(4) Jackson Williams 6’2 SG Faith Lutheran (#39) – Underrated defender. Jackson is one of the tallest defenders, willing to pick up full court. Great lateral quickness combined with good size and length. High IQ defender who understands defensive rotations and how to play passing lanes.
Strengths: Elite defender at multiple positions
Versatility: Defends 1-3
Best Skill: Defensive IQ
(5) Cort Ballinger 5’10 PG Bishop Manogue (#25) – High IQ defender with several elite defensive skills.
Strengths: Plays both the passing lanes and on-ball defense at an elite level
Versatility: Defends 1- 2
Best Skill: Quick hands that allow him to harass opposing ballhandlers
(6) John Board 6’1 SG Basic (#17) – Physical defender strong enough to defend in post-up situations, but agile and fast enough to defend perimeter players.
Strengths: Post defense
Versatility: Defends 1- 3
Best Skill: Defensive toughness. Board will battle larger players that attempt to post him and chase smaller guards looking to run him off screens.
(7) Semaj Threats 5’9 Desert Pines (#26) – Very similar to Abellar. Pitbull defender that can impact the game with his ability to disrupt ballhandlers. Compact athlete with the lateral quickness to stay in front of anyone.
Strengths: On Ball Defense
Versatility: Defends PG’s
Best Skill: Lateral Quickness
(8) Desmond Green 6’9 PF Silverado (#72) – Elite rim protector with size, length, and athleticism to protect the rim and alter shots.
Strengths: Rim Protection
Versatility: Defends 4- 5
Best Skill: Great R&J Athlete that translates his athleticism into elite rim protection.
