Continue ReadingThe new PrephoopsNevada Rankings are out! The list features nearly 200 of the top Prep players in the state. I have been fortunate to see a lot of basketball, and a lot of prospects during the high school season. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top wing players in the class of 2023.
Sebastian Mack 6’1 SG Durango (#1) – Mack is the clear #1 player in his class. He checks all the boxes, elite skill set, high ceiling, and production on the high school level. Quick 1st stepped combined with outstanding shooting ability, Mack is one of the most explosive scorers in the state right now. Perhaps the most impressive thing he has done this year is play an influential role for one of the top teams in the state.
Darnell Fizer 6’4 SG Silverado (#2) – Fizer, missed the end of the season with an injury, however, while healthy he showed why he is considered a high major prospect. Like Mack, his strength is his shooting ability. Fizer has terrific size for his position and his upside can’t be overlooked. Already standing 6’4 if happens to grow another couple of inches, you are looking at the prototypical college wing.
Sterling Knox 6’3 SF Durango (#4) – Knox’s strength lies in his ability to space the floor and knock down shots. Like Mack he plays on a loaded Durango squad so his production isn’t going to always match his talent. He has good size, which allows him to help rebound from the guard position. What he needs to do most is improve his ballhandling, and work on creating shots for himself off the dribble.
Keanan Bey 6’5 SF Bishop Gorman (#7) -Bey spent the season on the Gorman JV team. He has the physical tools and lineage. Bey is related to University of Washington guard Jamal Bey and Colorado Buffs All-American Tyler. Bey is a good athlete who has the ability to put the ball on the ground. He is a driver first, however, he does have the ability to make outside shots when left open. He needs to play with a consistent motor, and show that he can take over games with his size and athleticism.
Logan Howren 6’4 SG Bishop Manogue (#12) – Howren is a tough, gritty competitor and Good rebounder. He’s very similar to BM star Cort Ballinger with his ability to play passing lanes. Good size, Howren is a strong athletic rebounder with big hops. High IQ two-sport athlete who is also the Backup QB on the varsity football team. Howren is a versatile player also capable of running the point.
