I have been fortunate to see a lot of basketball, and a lot of prospects during the high school season. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the players making their first appearance in the class of 2022 rankings.
Jayvon Jones 6’1 SG Centennial (#39) – Big shout out to Jermaine Seagers at WODE. I got a chance to see Jones back in the fall. A physical downhill guard, he translated his camp play into a successful JV season. Good first step, with the strength to finish through contact.
Jalen Foy 6’5 PF Canyon Springs (#20) – Foy has burst onto the scene with his play for the Pioneers varsity. A pick and pop specialist, he has shot the ball tremendously well this year. He has a ton of upside, with his skill set, if he grows a couple of inches, he instantly becomes an intriguing prospect.
Gianni Rodriguez 6’3 SF Sierra Vista (#34) – Rodriguez is another of the WODE alumni. Highly skilled playmaker, Rodriguez is comfortable creating in one on one situations, or going and getting it himself off the glass. Smooth scorer with a solid shooting touch from 15.
Jacques Williams Jr 5’10 PG Arbor View (#40) – Williams cracks the list with his play on the Arbor View JV squad. He’s good enough to play Varsity, however, because of the Aggies senior-laden squad, Williams bides his time running the JV team. Quick power PG that knocks down shots in catch and shoot situations. With the Aggies losing so many players, Williams has a terrific opportunity to rise in the rankings.
John Derrick 6’6 SF Foothill (#35) – Derrick makes the list based on his potential and upside. A long rangy athlete, Derrick has good hands and finishes well in transition. No real signature skill to hang his hat on yet, if he develops one he will certainly raise his already blossoming stock.
Sylis Gray 6’3 SG Clark (#15) – Gray had the highest leap on the board. A good shooter, with the ability to create a shot for himself. Gray is another WODE camp alumn that translated his work from the summer into a productive varsity season.
