I have been fortunate to see a lot of basketball, and a lot of prospects during the high school season. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the players making their first appearance in the class of 2020 rankings.
Jason Hand 6’4 SECTA 2020 (#87) – I have to give Hand a hand. The shooting guard makes the list for his production, as well as his impact on the games that SECTA has won. He currently is averaging 10 per game with a season-high of 23. He comes in on the list at 87
Jacob Sanford 6’4 PF Boulder City (#83) – Sanford is one of the top glue guys in the state. His ability to rebound, defend and rim protect has been huge in helping BC to 16 wins. Sanford isn’t the type of player that’s going to score a ton, that’s simply not his role on this team. He will, however, impact the game in several other ways helping his team to victories. He comes in at 83rd on the list.
Noah Do 6’3 SG Arbor View (#71) – Do is a sniper for one of the most talented teams in the state. He is not afraid to take and make the big shot for his team. On a team with a lot of scorers, he plays his niche well. Do shoots the 3 three-ball at a high clip providing floor spacing for the Aggies other athletes. He enters the list at 71.
Sam Johnson 6’6 PF Durango (#62) – Johnson is part of a quartet of bigs for Durango. Johnson is another glue guy whose impact is not found in numbers. He routinely defends the top post player on the opposing team and rebounds at a high level. His energy and effort are contagious and he along with fellow big Kendrick Gilbert make up one of the top frontcourts in the state. Johnson enters the list at 62.
Luis Avila 6’8 PF SECTA 2020 (#47) – I’m so happy that I had a chance to watch Avila this season. A true sleeper, the 6’8 forward has wing skills. He is actually much more comfortable stepping outside and shooting the 3. He also can put the ball down for a couple of dribbles and create a shot for himself. He will be staying home to play at CSN next season, so I ‘m super excited to watch his progress. He enters the list at 47.
Meshack Hawkins 6’0 SG Chaparral (#39) -The shack has put together a terrific season for Chaparral. He is a do-everything player that currently leads his team in every major statistical category. Good run and jump athlete Hawkins is also a two-sport star who is a beast on the football field. He goes from being unranked to 39th on the list.
Kareem Rowe 6’6 PF McQueen (#23) – Truth be told Kareem Rowe and all the Reno player for that matter owe a big thanks to Todd Miller productions. I don’t get out to Reno much, but thanks to the media coverage from TMP I have seen nearly every game Rowe has played this season. And what a season it has been. The 6’6 forward has been an absolute load all year averaging over 23 points and 12 rebounds per game good for 4th and 2nd in the state respectively. He went from unranked to #23 on the list.
