Each class had solid contributions, today I want to feature the class of 2021. I’ve often heard a player’s junior year is the most critical year because colleges start making those phone calls to inquire about the player more in depth. Coaches have two years of film to really judge a player. In Nevada the class of 2021 really showed up and showed out. A number of 2021 prospects lead the state in points rebounds and other statistical categories.
Ethan Speaker 6’6 SF Boulder City 2021 (#8 PHN 2021) – Speaker’s stock is rising in every aspect. He is the overall favorite to win 3A player of the year. And certainly colleges will be banging on his door. He’s averaging nearly 25 a night which is tops in the state and 10 rebounds. He had a phenomenal January scoring 30 in 5 out of 7 games in the games he didn’t score 30 he went for just an OK 26. This young man has really come into his own this season. When things get tough for Boulder, Speaker can simply take over the game with his rebounding and play making ability. Speaker has the Eagles with a 16-9 record while leading the team in points, rebounds, and steals.
Ta’Quawn-Dillon Hodges Rancho 6’0 SG 2021 (#21 PHN 2021)– Hodges emergence really shouldn’t come to a surprise to anyone. Hodges had an impressive summer. Hodges turned that hard work in the summer into a work man like winter. TDH is a strong physical guard that makes his living in the lane. TDH knows where he wants to go and as a defender it’s up to you to stop him. Rancho had a less than stellar season. However, TDH was the best part of their season averaging 17 points 7 rebounds and 3 steals per game. TDH has a buffet game meaning he can do it all. He had 5 double-doubles on the year. Despite his teams record he willed them with effort with his rebounding and his ability to score 20 at any given time. He’s a smart ball player he’s able to get in and out the lane he is a rhythm guy and made a lot of his living at the FT line.
Lucas Walker 5’11 PG Moapa Valley (#23 PHN 2021) – Walker is a quick shifty PG with a variety of moves and a strong finishing ability around the rim. Walker has a strap from beyond the arc. This season he really showed his ability to be the best player on the floor averaging 21.6 points 5.8 assists 2.9 rebounds and 2.9 steals. Walker does it all for his team. He is the prototypical modern day point guard he can score 30 and get you double digit assists. Walker is also a very good defender he can lock his man down and make him pay with his equally high IQ on the offensive side of the ball. Walker knows how to get to the FT line and he makes his FTs at a high level.
Lowell Chan 6’4 G 2021 Sierra Vista 2021 (No Ranking)- Chan might be the states best kept secret he has everything you want in your guard he has the height he has the size he has deceptive athleticism. I think he is a prospect that will be flirting with being ranked on the year. On the year he is averaging 16.3 points 2.9 assists 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. Chan’s game is very efficient. He knows his game and is comfortable with his skill set, he can beat you in numerous ways. Chan has had a 26 point 6 steal performance against Del Sol this year Chan has also had 19 point 10 rebound game against San Pedro. He also has a 14 rebound game under his belt. Chan has had multiple double-double games this year. Chan’s only problem is he tends to do too much at times that causes turnovers. Overall I would consider him Sierra Vista’s best player. If I had an all effort team he would be on it for sure.
