The Morris County Tournament will hold it’s semi-final games on Saturday. Four teams are left and they all believe they can move on to the finals and become champions. It has been a great tournament thus far and that will continue at The County College of Morris this weekend. Here is a full preview of what to expect in these two games.
2- Delbarton vs. 6- Roxbury, 5:00 PM
Delbarton has won their last six games including two big wins in the tournament. The No. 2 seed took down Whippany Park 79-59 and then defense prevailed 41-29 against Mendham. Delbarton has been consistent throughout the season. Jerry Jabbour has been their leading scorer all season long but Isaiah Washington and Rohin Bobba have also been key contributors. In the tournament, they have had different players go off on certain nights including Dean Smith against Whippany Park. They are a team that plays defense and makes it difficult for their opponent.
Roxbury pulled off a big time upset against No. 3 Jefferson in the quarterfinal round. They held Jefferson to 37 points in a 15-point victory. In round one, Roxbury handled Morris Hills 51-43. Roxbury is set up well for next season. Juniors Kyle Haegele, Trevor Napoliello, and Jason Raggi have been key for this team. Senior Brian Nichols is looking to pick up a Morris County title before graduation. Haegele has been the catalyst this tournament. He has scored in double-figures in both games. He will need to have another big game if they want to upset Delbarton.
1- West Morris vs. 5- Randolph, 6:30 PM
West Morris has not been tested as the top-seed yet. It was a 77-36 win in round one against Boonton and an 18-point triumph in the quarterfinals against Hanover Park. West Morris has been the best team in Morris County by far. They have a record of 21-2 and it will take a lot to take them down. Ryan Hillier has been the leader all season for West Morris. He has been in double-figures in both games during the tournament. Christian Cevis is one of the top passers in the state. He is averaging just under 10 assists per game and that has been the case in the tournament where he has dished out 18 in two games.
Randolph escaped with a four-point victory over Mountain Lakes in the quarterfinals. They used a big fourth quarter to win the game led by Brian Eames with 17 points and Dylan Haun with 14. Justin Lawler was the most dominant player on the floor. He scored seven points but made his presence known as he grabbed 24 rebounds. Randolph is a team that knows their identity and knows how to play their game. That will be key if they want to dethrone West Morris.
