Continue ReadingMoeller hosted Turpin Saturday evening for their senior night, and they showed up to play. Turpin started off the contest hot with Jackson Holt and Owen Spencer knocking down some early threes. Midway through the first quarter, Moeller started hitting some shots of their own. A few dunks by Logan Duncomb sparked the Crusaders into some great play in the 2nd quarter, where they outscored Turpin 19-8.
The game was full of turnovers with the teams having 17 and 18 respectively, but that did not stop Moeller from using its weapons to get to the rim. That aggressiveness ultimately made the difference. Turpin’s big man and other star guard were in foul trouble early and ended up fouling out. With Moeller having a team full of college prospects at all levels, teams simply cannot afford to get into foul trouble.
Logan Duncomb ( 17pts, 10reb ) led the way for the Crusaders. The big man had 6 offensive rebounds, and his efficiency inside the paint is top-notch. When he did miss he was generally there to get the rebound. His physicality and ability to get to the rim ultimately saw him winning the battle of the bigs.
Max Land ( 11pts, 3blk, 2 stl ) had a good offensive game but defensively made some huge blocks that got the crowd even more into the game. The future St. Francis (PA) guard made the most of his senior night and will be a key factor come tournament time.
Will McCracken ( 10pts, 7 reb, 4 blk ) put on a defensive clinic. This kid is an animal inside. His athleticism and defensive abilities are one of the best in the state for the 2021 class. He currently holds multiple D-1 offers, but the list will continue to lengthen as he solidifies an outside game.
Aidan Noyes ( 9pts, 3 reb ) also had himself a solid offensive showing. He is another lengthy guard that holds some mid-major offers. He is currently ranked 10th in the state for the 2021 class.
Alex Williams ( 6pts, 5reb, 4stl ) struggled offensively but continues to be a lockdown defender. While he went 2-10 from the field, his ability to create open shot opportunities both off and on the ball is superb. He has a strong, athletic frame and is quick in transition.
Michael Currin ( 4pts, 7reb, 6ast ) is a solid guard. While he doesn’t offer the point-scoring ability of the other guard’s Moeller offers (even though he is shooting 53% from the field this year), he offers stability in the offensive flow of their game. His 6 assists to 1 turnover was a good indication of how he performs. He is averaging a 3-1 assist to turnover ratio this year and is a leader that knows his role and thrives in it.
While it wasn’t Turpin’s night, Jackson Holt ( 17pts, 4reb ) was a standout performer for his team. The 2021 guard showed off his shooting ability. Jackson had to step up due to the foul trouble his team was in, and he delivered. Jackson has the ability to play at the next level at a D2-3 level.
