Derek Gray – 2020 – G – La Follette
Could see in fall league action that this was going to be a different season for Gray. The senior guard dominated Thursday’s game in isolation sets and in transition. If he was going 1-on-1, Gray was getting to the rim whenever he wanted. Scoring a game-high 24 points, Gray was playing downhill from the opening tip to the final buzzer. A break-you-down guard with long arms and fluid ball handling, Gray is difficult to stay in front of with a deep bag of tricks at his disposal, which include a series of hesitations and fakes to get defenders off balance.
Marshaun Harriel – 2022 – PG – Janesville Craig
Interested to see this kid during the travel season. He doesn’t have the most talent around him, but seemed to be able to elevate his teammates at times. Harriel wasn’t flustered by the constant pressure of La Follette and kept his head up on the dribble, delivering some nice passes for easy buckets. A speedy guard who can finish at top end speed, Harriel had some impressive transition finishes where he converted plus the foul. The sophomore guard chipped in with 12 points in the loss.
Dakovin Prather – 2020 – F – La Follette
A late bloomer that could develop into something at the next level, Prather is an intriguing senior prospect still on the market. Prather (6-3) is undersized, but has plenty of length and athleticism and plays bigger than his frame. Prather set the tone early with two transition dunks and a couple of blocks. While the Lancers are very guard-oriented, Prather can handle the ball a bit and ignite the break himself. The senior forward also has defensive versatility and had no problem switching onto the perimeter. Currently unranked, Prather could be a potential hidden gem in this 2020 class.
Ben Probst – 2020 – SG – La Follette
Probst didn’t have his best stuff on Thursday, but when the game is in the balance, this kid always seems to show up. After missing some open shots that he normally knocks down, Probst rose to the occasion with eight of his 17 points late to hold off a charge from Craig. The senior guard hit a couple of deep 3’s and also had a strong finish in transition during the spurt. A knockdown shooter with a strong frame, who also provides a gritty defensive presence on the floor, Probst can not only catch-and-shoot off screens, but he’s able to invert himself in the offense and play on the block. A prospect that serves a variety of roles, Probst has plenty of value on any team he’s on.
Angelo Rizzo – 2021 – SG – Janesville Craig
Rizzo got hot late and helped Craig cut an 18-point deficit down to six. The junior guard showed off a strong mid-range game en route to 19 points. Rizzo has an excellent pull-up jumper off the spin and created quality looks by using his 6-foot-2 frame. Also a smooth catch-and-shoot guard, Rizzo lets it fly from beyond the arc with confidence.
