Kamble Haverkamp, Centralia – Topeka Capital Journal Top 11
The quarterback is averaging 11.4 points on the season. He’s one of several from the area headed to football powerhouse Butler County.
Gabe Garber, Sabetha – Topeka Capital Journal Top 11 second team
This all-around athlete could probably play three different sports in college somewhere. He’s scoring 21 points a game. He announced on Twitter he as a preferred walk-on offer from the Kansas University football team.
Qua’vez Humphreys, Junction City – First team 6A receiver
The ultra athletic 6-foot-2 Humphreys is about all Junction City has when it comes to height, so he spends a lot of time in the lane. He’s committed to play football at Butler County.
Taybor Vetter, Wamego – First team 3A receiver
The 5-foot-9 senior is scoring 11.5 points per game. He committed to play football at Washburn.
Tee Preisner, Northern Heights – first team 1A end
Just try keeping the 6-foot-3, 260 pounder away from his spot on the floor. He dominates with 14.5 points and 11 boards a game. He’s heading to Emporia State.
Da’Vonshai Harden, Topeka High
He’s such a unique athlete. At 6-foot-4, thick and with smooth athleticism, he averages 11.8 points, many from beyond the arc, yet he overpowers smaller defenders in the lane. He switched his commitment at the last minute from Kansas University to Northern Iowa. Will he stay at quarterback or switch positions?
Dre Durall, Topeka West
The 6-foot-3 rebounding terror will attend Benedictine College on a football scholarship.
Drayton Foster, Seaman
The 6-foot-5 senior will play for Washburn.
Bradley Sackrider, Wamego
The 6-foot-2 senior is also headed to Washburn.
Ky Thomas, Topeka High – Topeka Capital Journal Top 11
While Thomas is not playing basketball this season for Topeka High, he’s definitely worthy of mention. The slippery point guard was one of the Trojans’ top performers a year ago, but he opted to skip his senior year of basketball to head to the University of Minnesota early for football. He will be remembered as one of the greatest high school backs in state history. He’s missed in Topeka if simply because you could count on him to do something every basketball that left you in amazement.
