SANTA ANA, CA—As the saying goes, “time flies when you’re having fun” and that has been the on-going theme for the Nike Extravaganza. From the epic performance of Kevin Love (Lake Oswego/Cleveland Cavaliers) to the passing wizardry of Lonzo Ball (Chino Hills/New Orleans Pelicans) there have been many memorable performances. There wasn’t an act that would deemed unforgettable, but there were a number of fine perfomances including Georgetown-bound Tyler Beard (Whitney Young) and Princeton-bound Mason Hooks (Harvard-Westlake).
Langston Redfield (Capistrano Valley)
2021, PG, 6-foot-2, 165 pounds
Redfield is a consistent jump shot away from being a solid D1 recruit.Joel’s Take: Redfield is a rangy point guard prospect who is just scratching the surface. He has very long arms, solid quickness, and he keeps his handle low while attacking. His forte is passing as he is one of the better passers in Orange County. However, at some point he needs to look to score. There are numerous times he gets the elbow and instead of pulling up for the mid-range shot, he passes it off. He did show a nice runner a couple of times, but the development of his jump shot will be the key where he ends up at the next level.
Garrett Bell (La Habra/Sonora)
2020, PF, 6-foot-6, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: Bell is a solidly built 4-man who possesses a nice perimeter game. He squares up nicely on his jump shot and his release is tight as he went 4-of-10 from the stripe. He moves well without the ball and he competes. He can post up and seals off his defender well on the block. He is at his best though coming off a pin down screen to get his shot off and he is a willing rebounder.
David Olcomendy (Los Alamitos)
2020, PF, 6-foot-6, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: Olcomendy is a blue collar 4-man who affects the game with his aggressive mindset, solid length, and good hands. He grinds the paint area, creates space, and as a result he gets numerous tip-ins and put-backs. He shows elbow touch as well, but he is at his best roaming the paint and making plays at both ends due to his feel for the game and assertiveness.
Marland Harris (Westchester)
2020, PF, 6-foot-8, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: Harris has had a solid senior campaign and it continued at this event. The strongly built 4-man is a bouncy athlete who shows good hands and feet and his post skills have evolved. He sets up well on the block and he can elevate over his defender while exhibiting a soft touch. One of the more intriguing seniors who could be a great catch for a JUCO going forward.
