SANTA ANA, CA—As the saying goes, “time flies when you’re having fun” and that has been the on-going theme for the Nike Extravaganza. From the epic performance of Kevin Love (Lake Oswego/Cleveland Cavaliers) to the passing wizardry of Lonzo Ball (Chino Hills/New Orleans Pelicans) there have been many memorable performances. There wasn’t an act that would deemed unforgettable, but there were a number of fine perfomances including Georgetown-bound Tyler Beard (Whitney Young) and Princeton-bound Mason Hooks (Harvard-Westlake).
Brantly Stevenson (Etiwanda)
2020, SG, 6-foot-4, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: Stevenson is not known for his outside shot, but he had it cooking against Westchester. He has good ball skills, possesses good quickness and speed, and he is a relentless competitor. Defensively, he shows good ball denial skills, slides his feet well, and his aggressive mindset is on point. Overall, he is one of the more improved prospects in the senior class.
Shane Bell (Richmond/Salesian)
2020, SG/WF, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds
Bell is one of the best unsigned seniors in California.Joel’s Take: One of the better unsigned seniors in Northern California is Bell. The wiry 2-guard prospect is a consistent jump shot from being a sure-fire D1 player. In transition he slithers by defenders on his way to the rim and he has the dexterity to finish through and around the opposition. Defensively, he is a ballhawk with long arms, quickness, and active hands.
Everett May (Los Alamitos)
2021, WF, 6-foot-5, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: The willowy May is a late-blooming prospect. He has long arms and a rangy frame and his jump shot is smooth. He can come off a pin-down screen, square up, and knock in the deep 3-pointer. He gets his shot off quick and his mechanics look great. He needs to get stronger so he can finish more consistently through contact, but his progress has been solid.
Luke Haupt (San Diego/St. Augustine)
2020, PF, 6-foot-6, 210 pounds
Joel’s Take: The ultimate glue-type prospect is Mr. Haupt. The playmaking lefty impacts the game in many areas—most notably, passing. He has great vision and understands angles while feeding his teammates. He can play inside-out due to his all-around skills set. His footwork and feel on the block was on display as he picked apart the defense with his passing and scoring with either hand.
