Continue ReadingAfter sectional openers last weekend, teams get their tournament jitters out and prepare for the next round of games. In Tuesday’s action at Springfield High School, 3 teams continued their journey while one team played their first matchup. At the end of the day, some great athletes were on display, and several college recruits showed off. Here are the top performers from sectional action in Springfield.
Ryan Chew (2022) Bellbrook- This is not the first time I have mentioned Chew in a top performers article, and this will certaintly not be the last either. The young guard was a consistent threat in the backcourt for the Eagles. Pushing up-tempo and trying to speed up this Kenton Ridge team, Chew was blowing by defenders with his quick handles and sudden burst of speed and direction in the open court. He did a nice job of drawing defensive pressure and then kicking out to open teammates. While the Eagles ultimately lost this one, Chew showed us he is a very early candidate for 1st Team All-SWBL in 2021.
Tyler Eberhart (2020) Kenton Ridge- Arguably the most high profile commit playing Tuesday, Eberhart used a combination of pure strength
and shooting touch to torch this Bellbrook squad. He has such a quick release and range well outside the 3-point arc, Eberhart forced Bellbrook’s defense to commit to always covering him. Able to score from multiple levels, the University of Charleston signee came to play leading all scorers.
Collin Perkins (2020) Kenton Ridge- If you are looking for an underrated post player, Perkins is front of the line. The 6’8 center has an extremely strong frame. His post moves were quick and done with a purpose and in control. He knew to keep the ball high and did not allow it to drop below his chest on rebounds and receiving entry passes. Uses active hands to defend the rim and overall takes pride in protecting the paint.
Devon Perdue (2020) Ponitz- The scrappy point guard made an impact on both ends of the floor. Offenisvely he led the fast break against Alter, trying to create offense before they could settle into their zone. In half court situations, Perdue had a lethal first step and used his speed to blow by Alter defenders. His ability to hit outside shots further made him difficult to defend. On the defensive end, he was aggressive and was able to control his movements, but do them in a fast enough way to cause some chaos with Alter’s younger guards.
Delvonte Adams (2022) Ponitz- Adams may have come off the bench for Ponitz, but his minutes were huge for a Panthers team that was very undersized in their matchup with Alter. Only about 6’1, he played with a high motor and was unafraid to compete with the much taller Alter defenders. He spaced the paint and found gaps when the defense collapsed on driving guards. On missed opportunities, he was persistent on going after rebounds and created problems at times for the Knights. Brings a physicality that is rare for a sophomore.
