The Douglass team of 2020 went (11-12) in the regular season and isn’t ranked in 4A’s top 20, but that doesn’t mean they can’t surprise some people and sneak into the State tournament.
Their record doesn’t reflect it, but the Trojans are battle-tested already, and that’s something other 4A teams aren’t. Yeah, they may have 12 losses but among those losses are to a ranked Bishop McGuinness by three, a ranked Classen SAS, the No. 1 team in Class 3A Millwood, Northwest Classen who’s ranked in 5A and John Marshall who is ranked. They went through a tough stretch where they lost five-straight games to ranked opponents.
There’s almost always one team per class that sneaks into the Stat tournament and It’s not fair to assume Douglass will be an easy out in the playoffs. After a 65-44 win over Verdigris, they’re one game away from advancing to Area and we all know that anything can happen in the Area tournament.
Douglass’ athleticism is their money maker and that’s what has been on display in the Regional tournament in their wins over Bristow and Verdigris. J.J. Webb, Banks and CJ Moses are the leaders of this Trojan squad and I behoove you to not sleep on them.
