Continue ReadingSectional matchups can sometimes be hard to evaluate since some of the prospects are not used to playing bigger named guys. Wednesday’s matchups pitted several well known names in Dayton with some new guys that rose on the scene. The 5 players below played pivotal roles with their respective teams and impressed me in regards to both aspects of the game.
Dan Nauseef Dan Nauseef 6'7" | C Chaminade Julienne | 2021 State OH (2021) Chaminade-Julienne- High ceiling post player. Rim protector with his length and enough bounce to be disruptive. Showed he has the speed and footwork to be a solid perimeter defender. Offensively excels on the block with his back to the basket. Utilizes a nice up-and-under against post defenders.
Kylan Tucker (2022) Chaminade-Julienne- Young defensive minded guard for the Eagles. Sits down in good defensive stance and moves his feet quickly and efficiently. Quick but also makes good decisions on the defensive end. Plays with a good pace on the offensive end, but must work his shot and shooting form. Promising prospect if he improves his offensive game.
Darren Rubin Darren Rubin 6'1" | PG Oakwood | 2020 State OH (2020) Oakwood- One of the better PG prospects on display. Has the green light to pull shots from college range beyond the arc. Showed in this game he could get inside with the dribble drive. Quick hands and solid ball handler that can get downhill fast once he gets by defenders on the perimeter. Wrapped up a great high school career and will now head to Denison in the Fall.
Anthony McComb Anthony McComb 6'2" | SG Trotwood | 2021 State OH (2021) Thurgood Marshall- McComb is the best basketball prospect that played on Wednesday. Not afraid of anybody, he plays with a tenacity that is tough for opponents to match. Does not succumb to pressure as he kept his dribble alive against pressure from Valley View. Plays with pace but has control still. Consistently was in the lane off the dribble against the Valley View 2-3 zone.
Justin Bromagen (2020) Valley View- Big body in the paint. Looks like an O-Lineman on the Gridiron. Posts ups were strong and efficient. Sealed off the smaller Thurgood defenders and was too big for anyone to defend. Plays through contact and showed good body control while taking shots in the paint. Definitely not the best defensive player unless someone was taking a shot at the rim, but still anchors the bottom of the 2-3.
