With California having some of the most highly touted prospects across the country the position board there will always be prospects that are overlooked. Some of the most recent overlooked California players to make it into the NBA starts with names like Tyler Johnson(Archbishop Mitty High School) of the Phoenix Suns up to Damian Lillard(Oakland High School) of the Portland Trail Blazers current household names in the NBA so any one of these players on the list you might see in a few years fighting for a roster spot or doing the unthinkable of going from no stars to being an NBA 1st round draft pick.
Jamir Thomas – Combo Guard – Berkeley High School ( Berkeley, CA )
- “TeamMeeze is what you hear and see whenever Jamir hits the floor for Berkeley High School and its for a reason. Floor General and true point guard. Possesses college-level handles with the Court IQ to match. Stepback 3s, sidestep mid-range jump shots to slashing double pump layups always giving the crowd a thrill on offense. Transfer eligibility situation to and from Salesian High School had Jamir sitting for a year but he is back playing with a chip on his shoulder still playing in one of the East Bay’s toughest leagues the ACCAL league featuring nationally-ranked Bishop O’ Dowd of Oakland, California. Multiple 30 point games against the touted competition will help his resume going into the summer.
Marcus Greene – Combo Guard – Archbishop Mitty High School ( San Jose, CA )
- Plays off the ball for Mitty and brings the sparks to the offense. Slashing across the middle looking for a pass to an assist. To find a spot on the wing while the ballhandler drives to the hole checking for the outlet pass if be a miss. Defensively is a pest. Not scared to guard the best player on the other team and contain and prevent him from being remotely noticeable in the game. Be looking for WCC and Big West conferences schools giving him a ring if Mitty can complete a state championship run in March in the CIF’s Open Division.
Gavin Wilburn – Combo Guard – Weston Ranch High School ( Stockton, CA )
- Division 1 schools showing plenty of interest in this athletic shooting guarding, but holding one offer from the University of Pacific. This highflyer crashes the boards looking for the put-back dunk. Bumps shoulders with all forwards and centers, Scrappy, if the ball is rolling on the floor you can guarantee Gavin is diving for it sacrificing for the team. Satisfactory at mid-range and will step into the long-range and knock down the 3 in a pressure situation. Not a problem to be a primary ballhandler in a pressure situation and will play another position for the better of the team. Averaging 11 PPG with 2 APG and 2 SPG a solid run into the CIF playoff with more consistency in his jump shot would be more offers come spring.
Dominic Wilson – Combo Guard – Archbishop Riordan High School ( San Francisco, CA )
- Already on a loaded Archbishop Riordan team with 2 seniors committed to Division 1 school and a transfer 7’1 Sophmore center, it might be hard to be standout in the crowd, but Dominic has no problem relentlessly going for offensive rebounds and getting putbacks at all cost with the height already in the frontcourt. Solid midrange shot that compliments his passing and enhances his court IQ makes him the complete player. Having double-digit games and always playing shutdown defense with steals that look like passes from a football field look for Dominic to for sure be on a college roster next year making an impact.
