QUARTERFINAL PREVIEWS
Theodore Roosevelt vs. McKinley Tech
It will be tough for McKinley to match Roosevelt’s depth and firepower from top to bottom. Tech point guard Ronald Grose will have his hands full trying to handle the press, but if he can effectively control the tempo of this game, his team will have a good shot to compete.
Woodrow Wilson vs. Ron Brown
Wilson, winner of 11 straight games, is playing its best basketball of the season. Miasiah Brown has been the engine of this team all season, and alongside super sophomore, Darren Buchanan Jr., form perhaps the most dynamic duo in the city. Ron Brown has an athletic paint protector in Christian Johnson, who will certainly be tested by these two.
Coolidge vs. HD Woodson
Woodson’s Deontay Cozart is the top scorer in the league, but Coolidge has a balanced attack that will be tough to match. Sophomore Kyle Gaskins has been an impact transfer for the Colts while his classmate Stephaun Walker continues to grow and develop. If seniors Chase Cook and Chris Moses get into a rhythm, expect Coolidge to have the upper hand.
Dunbar vs. Anacostia
Michael Cheadle has been playing at a consistently high-level for Dunbar, to the surprise of many as he was a relative unknown prior to this season. Keeping the junior floor general out of the paint will be key for Anacostia, who is playing well after a slow start to the season. Watch out for athletic forwards Xavier Hardy and Chris Mateo. These two can be huge difference-makers for Dunbar as well.
